Never owned a handgun, though I've shot long guns for over 30 years. Been wanting to get one for some reason, but hate the way Glocks look(yeah-petty, I know). The Beretta 92 has always attracted me. Is it TD Outdoor Board approved?

I have a Glock 26. It really is a sweet little gun. For such a short barrel it is extremely accurate and just a pleasure to shoot. It manages recoil very well

I own the Springfield XD 9mm subcompact and like it very much. I'm very suprised by the accuracy I get out of it.

Just bought a Springfield XD .40, have only put about 50 rds through it. but I am impressed with its performance and fit in my hand.

Haven't bought a crimson trace yet, but will soon.
I see ebay and xdguys.com have the traces for good prices. Any suggestions where I may find one around baton Rouge for a competitive price? I see the internet sells for around $270 and up.

Aight I went and did some more looking, feeling, and researching today. I have narrowed it down to:
Glock 22 gen 4 .40 cal
Glock 23 gen 4 .40 cal
S&W m and p .40 cal
XD .40 cal

Have to say, the m and p felt the best in my hand. But I have not heard one negative about the Glock

One of the most important and most overlooked things when purchasing a hand gun.

Great gun, I own one of these as well. Timeless attractive design, very accurate and reliable.I love the low recoil due to the open slide. I have nothing but good things to say about mine.

IMO the Beretta is awesome in the 92 model 9mm. The 96 .40 is meh

Stoger cougar. Full trigger safety and awsome value. And yes I owned glock in the past, their safety is bullshite, anyone who picks up a gun knows to pull the trigger.

Not that many care but I have narrowed it down to the Glock 22 or 23 gen 4, or the Springfield XD 4 inch.

Now trying to also decide 40 or 45. To me the 45 had less recoil on the 40 with the Glock. What ya think

I like the .40 because I can switch barrels and have a .357 sig.

Regardless the .40 and the .45 are both proven manstoppers. Go with your gut

One last newb question. What is generally the longest barrel length on pistols in this general class? What models have longer barrels?

You can also switch to 9mm. I have the lone wolf 9mm conversion barrel and it works great in my G23.

Their all close the same at 4-5 inches
Beretta 4.9"
glock 22 4.5
glock 23 4.5

You can alway get an after market barrel with extra length like this one which is identical to mine. It's not very holster friendly though.

What is it about the .40 that you like??

I'm not bashing the .40. Just curious. I will also say that I have a 9mm (Glock 26) and a .45 (H&K USP) I like both and I have never shot the .40 much.

For me, if I were choosing between the .40 and .45, it really wouldn't be much of a choice. .45 would win hands down.
