So my college age kids decided they wanted to go to the mountains this summer instead of the islands. Decided to take them to Glacier National Park. It really is an incredible vacation spot if you have never been. The weather was perfect. highs in the mid 80's lows in the low 50's. Ended up seeing a grizzly bear, mountain goats, Boone and Crockett caliber sheep, Bald Eagles, and a black bear. Highly recommend if you have never been.

There are. They had to take down the signs saying they would all be gone by 2020

There are about 35 named glaciers in the park. They lasted a lot longer than the signs and President predicting their demise.

One of the most beautiful places on earth. We spent a
Week at Many Glacier hotel last summer and we will definitely be going back.

Always wanted to go backpacking in Glacier. The two days of travel on each side to make it happen have always kept me from going.

Wish I could go back in time and make better use of those multi-week breaks throughout the year during college.

In my opinion Glacier is more wilderness than Yellowstone and Grand Teton.....not as much to "do" as the other 2 unless you idea of a grand old time is being in unspoiled nature with wild animals everywhere and far fewer people....which is the definition of a grand old time in my book!

On another note someone did some sound parenting....college aged kids choosing the mountains over the islands???? And willing to vacation with the family???? That is some seriously good parenting evidence right there....GOOD SHOW!

When did you go? I'm supposed to be in GNP this week for our 10th wedding anniversary.

We were already waivering on our plans due to the road construction/closures and officially cancelled when everything got shut down with COVID. We monitored the situation and last I saw, the park had limited entrance (only West side where you were) and little to no amenities like fuel, food, essentials. Understandably so, the surrounding Indian tribes who run a lot of things there are concerned with their vulnerability of virus and disease and remain on lock down.

Maybe in 2021.

Shhh

Glacier is a horrible boring park and not worth anyone's time. Everyone should continue going to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons with all the foreign tourists and just pack in there watching the really dumb Americans try to get a selfie with a bison.

Awesome trip I agree. We went two runners ago for 10 days rented a log cabin on Spoon Lake (vrbo) just outside of West Glacier. We had reservations at campground this summer at Hungry Horse but cancelled due to China Virus and really the whole east side of park being closed. Will try again next year. In years past we backpacked Bob Marshal Wilderness area twice awesome times.

Plan on taking a family trip in the next year or two. Where the hell are the pics of the glacier caves?

I don’t know about glacier caves but we were going to hike to the Grinnell Glacier but the trail was closed. The Hidden Lakes trail was also closed the whole time we were there due to bears hunting goats.

This was on the side of the road in Hungry Horse. It was used to clear the land where the Hungry Horse reservoir is located.

Cool video showing how they were used.

Went last week. The gas stations and eating places were all open inside of the park. Rising sun was as far as you could go on the Going to the Sun Road. As long as you were at the gate by 6:30 you could find parking at Logan’s Pass.

You are right...in retrospect avoid Glacier like the plague...it is the most horrible, boring place on earth. More exciting and interesting to stay in Hahira Georgia and paint the porch for vacation....
