In 1/2 Ton if I keep it for a few years and then sell it, not towing much, and really local driving.

Gas
Reason it is not worth the extra cost to run a diesel.

If I plan to keep the truck for years, tow hard in this case I would jump to 3/4 ton 6.7 L, or drive alot.

Diesel.

Truck brand it the one you can find on the lot and you like as you are paying for it.

My fuel prices may be off a little but they are pretty close I think.

Gas was about $2.70. Diesel was about $4.30.

Good enough for government work.

have new gmc diesel and love it. Gets 25 mpg. I drive a lot and planning to keep it for 300,000 miles. Traded a f150 with v8 at 250,000 miles. I feel like a big upgrade

Glad you like your new ride. But I’ll be curious to see if your enthusiasm is still as high after you’ve owned it for a few years.

The only reason this is even a thought is there are some good deals to be had on diesel 1/2 tons. Like thousands less on eco diesel rams and 5.0l titans than their gas counterparts

In either 21 or 22 Ram went to a dual egr system in their Eco Diesels. And it’s nearly impossible to delete the trucks now. I drive 25-30k miles a year and looked at them, but couldn’t justify any of the diesels over a gas half ton. Ended up in a 5.0 F150 again.

I’ve got a Ram Crew Cab 4x4 Ecodiesel. The cost increase of the diesel fuel has stung a little but this is my favorite truck I have ever had.
I can hit about 28 or so mpg on trips and usually run around 24 mpg everyday driving. It’s not the fastest or strongest thing on the road but it does the job. Haven’t towed a lot and has about 150k on it so far . Did have a couple recalls done and a water pump but I am very pleased with it.
I was always a Chevy man, and wouldn’t mind trying out GM’s version of the 1/2 ton diesel.

I have a Duramax that I'm seriously thinking about trying to sell or trade for a gas here soon. Between the diesel prices and issues with them they're more of a pain than they're worth unless you really need the diesel for work. I have a camper, which is what I got the diesel for, but I barely use it. A gas truck would pull it for where we go camping. Mines a Duramax LML. Between the timebomb CP4 fuel pump, head gaskets, TCM, you name it, there's just too much expensive crap to break. And that's not counting the emissions garbage. Mine's deleted so at least I don't have those issues. Get a gas for sure unless you absolutely need the diesel to earn a living with.

Sad to hear what Duramax has become. The 06 I had was incredible in just about every aspect.

If you were buying a late model truck rn which would you choose a v8 gas truck or a diesel?

Unless your truck is making you money or you’re pulling a 5th wheel through the Rockies you’re better off with a gas. I have 2021 Silverado 2500 with the 6.6 gas burner. A half ton was a little bit under on the limits I wanted so I stepped up to the 2500. Love the truck. I can get 19MPG on the interstate driving 73. It has a 36 gallon tank which is great for longer trips. Has front independent suspension. The ride is night and day better than my 2017 F250. It’s a LT trim. Paid 51K for it OTD 19 months ago.
Mine has the 6 speed. The newer models you can upgrade to the 10 speed.
