I’ve caught the itch the start a garden for the first time. The ole man and pow pow both work some pretty decent sized gardens. Curious if any of you guys try working fruits into the mix? Specifically watermelons and pumpkins. Both would get eaten up quick in my home so I’m thinking about tilling a couple separate rows off by themselves for these 2.
Do it man. I don't understand why more people don't plant gardens. It's super easy, fun, and very rewarding. And Canteloupe and Watermelon grow very easy. I grew pumpkin once by accident. Some seeds got mixed up from Halloween and I grew a few.

Hey, Pillage. For some reason I am having a serious brain fart. What do you spray your tomatoes with to treat for fungus? I totally forgot what we used last year.

I've never had issues with fungus on tomatoes. I think the biggest issue would be if you over watered.

Last summer it did nothing but rain every day in Florida (the Sunshine State). Everybody's tomatoes had fungus.

Last year I alternated liquid copper and daconil. This year I’m doing daconil and mancozeb. Soil test showed an elevated level of copper in the soil, so I’m going to lay off of it.

Thanks. I have both daconil and copper. I think I used copper last year, now that you have refreshed my memory.

I grew pumpkins last year from some seeds that were in my compost. The made really nice pumpkins, but if you want them for October you have to plant in July. I had pumpkins ready in June, so they didn't exactly make it to the fall.
Watermelons are one of the plants I just haven't had much success growing. They require a ton of space, and vine borers usually destroy them before the fruit can ripen. The most successful watermelons I've ever grown have been by volunteer seeds coming out of compost or flower beds. I'm going to give another go this year with making a sandy spot for them to help them out.

Last year's rain made it impossible to keep blight off of them. As soon as I'd spray, it'd rain making everything negating any treatment I could do.

I think this cooler weather is helping the young plants before the jungle heat commences in LA.

I put all my stuff in ground Saturday afternoon.
I ended up doing a whole bed of flowers this year for the wife and kid, so we will see how that comes out.

Live in South ms, think im going to plant this weekend. I believe (hope) all the frost are gone. Planted taters a couple weeks ago, but going to do the main garden saturday. Mine is roughly 1 acre big, 13 rows of corn, 2 rows snap beans, 35-40 pepper plants, 30ish squash/zucchuni plants. 8 or 10 eggplant and cucumber. And a few maters.

Why so few tomatoes?

I was gone from last Thursday to yesterday. You weren’t kidding about the warm weather causing a growth spurt. Looks like my plants tripled in size. I did lose 2 straight 8 cucumber plants though. I had about 10 backups plants. Already replanted.

I may have lost a cucumber as well. The outer leaves are brown, but I'm going to give it until the weekend.

Planted a small, small garden Sunday. It is onlyb12’ by 18’ because I have a tiny yard. Planted two rows of snap bean, two rows of tomatoes, and a row of cucumbers

The warm weather has certainly helped my plants start to take off. Here’s a few pictures. If you look hard enough, you can tell on the older leaves of the cucumber plants that the colder weather last week did a little bit of damage to them. Luckily it was minimal.

As always, looking good.

My Tomatoe seedlings took of during the warm spell, I think i will plant nest week. Cherokee and Black crim

Think I’m gonna hit my plants with some daconil before the apocalypse tonight. Then I’ll spray some mancozeb on whatever is left after the rain tomorrow.

How bad is it supposed to get tonight?
