In Memphis I haven’t even started mine. We have had way to many cold nights to even think about it yet.
Had a good frost last night. About sick of it.

Is it too late to start a garden? I have a couple potted plants doing well but with the rain and tee ball haven’t had time to do one during the weekend

I wouldn't think so. I haven't even planted yet due to the weather and me not having too much time lately

Not at all. You may be better off buying plants rather than start from seed though.

Guys, quick question on where to put a small bed. I'm going to put some started peppers and herbs. Maybe 6x6 or 6x12 foot. I have a diagram attached. I was thinking of putting it in that west corner up against a the fence is gets shade late day due to the fence. Would my house block out to much morning sun?

Depends, Is this your house?

Without being a smartarse, if you have a normal subdivision house then you should be okay. Just as long as you get at least 5 hours of sun. Any less than that and I would start to question the rewards of going through the work of preparing a garden.

Ummm.. how did you find my house?

I just know in the summer it gets hot af and didn't want the plants to get burned. My grass grows thickest in that west corner, so I figured it may be a good growth area.

And that is why I want to move into the country with more land.

ETA: Picked the first cucumbers yesterday. They’re supposed to get up to 8 inches, but since I’m pretty much gonna be making pickles out of most of them I picked them at 7 to taste test. They were delicious.

Second bed has indigo cherry drop, cherokee purple, brandywine, and pineapple maters, zucchini, yellow squash, red and orange bell pepper, Edisto muskmelon, deer tongue, oak leaf, butter crunch lettuces, arugula, scallions, and nasturtium.

I would say thats a very good sign a garden would also grow well there too.

Still a couple weeks away from picking tomatoes. At least my cucumbers are taking off again. They don't like the cold snaps at all.

Planted mostly peppers and herb started plants yesterday. Some of them already were producing. Anyone have experience with Aji Pinapple, scotch bonnet, Cajun belle, and Carmen peppers? I told the guy at the nursery that I wanted mostly hot peppers. I believe the carmen is a sweet pepper, which I asked for. Also put down chives, rosemary, and mint.

I will likely use the hot peppers to make different types of hot sauce with

Carmen peppers

I’ve heard (from here) these are fantastic and have a pretty high yield. In a future (bigger) garden I will definitely plant some.

My tomato vines have been loving this weather. I have a lot of tomatoes--some very large but they just aren't ripening with these cool nights.

Now that we have warmed up some I expect I will pick some tomatoes early next week.

I am the Carmen advocate. They are sweetly delicious and produce like I have never witnessed. I greenhouse them in winter and they produce then too. Some of them get quite large and I have stuffed them. Delicious!

For just personal use, how many of the pepper plants would you have? I got one of each, except for banana peppers (wife likes them) and mint (mojitos).Just seemed like having more than out Scotch Bonnet would be silly since they are so hot.
