So I had to get a new camera since my wildgame innovations filled with water and shorted out.

I got a Moultrie that was $99 on clearance for $49 at Academy.

Had it out, angled perfectly. Put a bunch of dinner scraps and shite out. Checked this morning, and they are all gone but only 2 pictures. One of me putting the scraps out, and one of me going back to get the camera.

Nothing pisses me off worse than this. I even have it angled down. How does coons, etc sit there and eat all the scraps and not get a pic?

I had 4 moultrie cams, only one was worth a frick. Between not taking pictures, black pictures, or just quitting I have all Brownings now.

Had the same issue with my Moultrie. It would take a bunch of pics sometimes, and then others...nothing.

I went to WGI and it's been more consistent. Still not as good as the higher end camera's though.

More often than not you get what you pay for with gamecams. We have had a couple primos truth cams running almost 3 years now with no problems and quality pictures for the most part.

Bushel camera has been by far the best I've had especially on the batteries. My Moutrie went out. Wild game ones have held up but they tend to eat the batteries.

I've long been a Moultrie fan until this year...

I had been running Moultrie M880i Gen 1s. Decided to pick up a few more and found the M880i Gen 2s reasonably priced and bought several. I began to notice that the Gen 2s took far less pics than the Gen 1s. So I ran a test. I took both cameras and mounted them side by side on T posts. Used the exact same settings, batteries, and SD cards. When I checked the cameras, the Gen 2 had taken less than half as many pics as the Gen 1. The Gen 2 was missing deer that I would have never known were there were it not for the Gen 1 beside it.

So now I have several Gen 2s that I have absolutely no confidence in. I'll be in the market for some new cams this year.

Unfortunately the Gen 1s are hard to find now and more expensive than the "new and improved" Gen 2s

Went to Browning this year and have been very, very impressed. Battery life is unreal.

what great storytelling

stay away from low-end moultrie. stick to stealth cam, reconyx, covert, and cuddeback. the browning trail cams are actually pretty nice too (haven't figured out who is making them yet). some of the higher-end moultrie and WGIs are good.

with trail cams, you 100% get what you pay for

Some cameras are cheap and don't perform as advertised like some have said above... I know this from lots of experience with these cheaper cameras... However, I have noticed something over the years with game cams that maybe not everyone realizes.

These cameras work off of 2 triggers... 1 is motion and the other is ambient temperature. If the camera ONLY triggered on motion you would have a million pictures of the wind blowing the branches so the additional trigger is a difference in ambient temperature.

With that being said, I have always seen a drop off in the number of pictures during the summer months when it starts getting hotter outside. There just isn't enough difference in ambient temperature to trigger the camera.

I've had mostly WGI and Moultrie over the years... the Moultries have been pretty decent cams on the whole compared to the WGI cams. Last year I purchased a Browning and it seemed to perform pretty well. I would probably buy another.
