Rarely see baby cottons - caught just 3 or 4 my whole life before today - but today the juvies were out in force. Caught 3 babes along my creek this morning and they were beauties. Didn’t see a single mature cotton.

Dude, you are pretty brave, and that’s coming from a former Army Airborne Ranger…

I fear for my life picking up a rat snake. I'd grab that things tail, panic, throw it about 40 feet in the air, and haul arse

I do get a little nervous picking up these little ones. You have to be delicate with them and they are hard to get a good restrictive grip on. Not much margin for error. Though if I get tagged, I hope it’s by a baby and not a big one.

Butthole was puckered the entire time watching that video…nope nope nope. Hair on my arms stood up when I saw you then go instead of torching them

The little ones are so colorful. Love the yellow tail. But I only move them with a snake hook. Same for juvie coppers.

I've always heard that babies are more dangerous than adults because they don't know how to control the venom. Is this just another old wives tale?

Even though it probably doesn't hurt and they aren't poisonous. I still do this as well.

Old wives tale. If I’m taking a hit, I certainly want it to be from a baby.

The venom glands on a head this size…

…or on this guy…

…are probably as big as the entire head of this little guy.

I’ll take every drop the small fry has to offer over those big ones.

I mean not playing with Satan and having no chance of getting bit works even better.

depends on the snake

I got a dry bite from a rattler once that had a head the size of a teacup. Meanwhile the juvie rattlers around my camp are notorious for always envenomating.

Yeah tracks ate all over my land and especially around the creek. Right now I have 2 does with fawns that come eat corn in my back yard a few times/wk.
