Uh. I'd rather have my kid and his crew next to me than most grown ups

Heck there are just as many grown ups that are idiots

Some of us taught our kids right

Unfortunately, the kid will probably get away scot-free. I know more people than I care too that have well healed parents that have gotten off with everything their whole life...till something eventually catches up to them. Have a friend that OD'd last week that never caught any real hell because of mommy/daddy.

I think there should be a sanction on him that takes away his hunting privileges for awhile. Dad is the guy that is going to catch holy hell for allowing his son to take his truck and boat out unaccompanied by a licensed driver over the age of 21 or a sibling 18 or older.
The kid then was totally negligent in DAds boat and severe injury to a person was the result.

They self regulate at catahoula. No need for them to get in a hurry to get to their blinds If someone is in "their" blind, they will be asked to leave or ran out of it

I've heard that. Fortunately AlxTgr didn't sue me when i ran my go-devil boat into a bridge piling on the way to White Lake
I wouldve paid alot to watch. Left a nice dent in the front of that nice new boat.

I am certain that they are great boys. But in most cases a 14 year old just has not been faced with enough different scenarios to be ready to make the right decision.

And as you mentioned, alot of new guys in the outdoors arent near experienced enough to make the right ones either.

I have been at Wham in pea soup. We just sat at the launch till the fog burnt off. Way too many watercraft shooting out that canal to be comfortable that all would be safe. Sad, but true.

Update on friend injured.

In Houston , had to support the spine on both sides of trauma area. 8 screws and a steel rod. Torn ligaments.
ETA: had to clean up all around the spinal column.
Don't know what's in the future....

Just an update on this crime;

My friend just got news down in Houston that possibility is he may not be able to walk again.

Thus far the family has not been told anything about how La DWF is handling this. This occured a month ago on Dec. 20.
Still investigating? Or any other possibilities?
Several crimes occured in the incident: an underaged kid driving , speeding in a boat under extremely unsafe conditions. Dad should be extremely worried, I would think. Meanwhile, I wonder how many days Jr. lost duck hunting?

if he passed his boating safety course and had his card he would have been legal.... but I doubt he did.

I meant to say driving DAD's truck to Wham without a licensed driver . At age 15, the kid reportedly had only a learner's permit. He was only accompanied by a 14 year old.Sorry for the confusion.

I think he's referring to underage kid illegally driving the truck from home to get to the launch. Kid was only 14 if I read the story correctly...not old enough to legally drive in LA.

Also should be said the kid may have been old enough to drive that boat but clearly doesn't have the brains nor the GD sense to be turned loose on the public.

Question to any possible La DW&F folks here:
How long does an inquiry like this normally take?

The parents are in deep shite I'd assume if they are letting a 15 year old drive and pull a boat. That's just shite parenting, there's plenty of grown women that couldn't drive a trailer. There's absolutely no reason a 15 year old should be pulling a recreational vehicle, if it's a farm or something that's one thing but still dangerous.

Agree totally. This really sounds like a parent that can't say "NO!"

I can't imagine how I'd feel if I caused this kind of injury to someone by my stupid action.

As an aside,I've related this story to someone who commented that " Well, this is all about kids being kids."
