Why mad at them. Without oversight, Louisiana outdoors folks would have made this a place with zero edible wildlife. They would do Discovery documentaries on the wasteland that was left behind.
This is a fact!! For the most part or most of the agents they do it right and are reasonable. But I know of some guys who had everything in place with all the checks but somehow had one corroded lead shot in the bottom of a bucket and got a ticket.
It’s akin to the cop giving the elderly Sunday school teacher a speeding ticket for 2mph over. Come on man go find that ol boy that’s shooting 10 deer at night or shooting a hundred ducks over bait!!

the post i was replying to
My point was that Louisiana lets these big corporations (have been for decades) come in and destroy our wetlands, so I would blame them over resident hunters for potentially creating a place "with zero edible wildlife"
ETA: not even mentioning the BP oil spill
Supreme Court keeps wetland damage lawsuits in state courts

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A lawsuit against oil and gas companies over damage to Louisiana’s wetlands will remain in state court, the U.S. Supreme Court said, rejecting an appeal by major energy companies who wanted to get the case moved to a federal court.
The high court rejected the appeal in a brief order dated Monday that did not give reasons. In effect, it upheld an October appeals court decision that keeps the lawsuit by Plaquemines Parish against oil giants — including Chevron, ConocoPhillips and Exxon Mobile — in state court.
It’s the latest development in connection with dozens of lawsuits filed in Plaquemines, Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. John the Baptist, Vermilion and Cameron parishes between 2012 and 2017. The suits claim the defendant oil companies have failed to comply with state law governing coastal resources.
The parishes cited damage to wetlands stemming from the building of service canals, disposal of hazardous waste and saltwater, and other operations. Each asked that the companies either repair the damage or pay the parishes and state for the losses.
The lawsuits have long been bogged down in jurisdictional questions. Oil companies have long argued that the lawsuits involve federal questions that belong in U.S. District courts, not in the various local state courts where the suits were originally filed. Attorneys for the parishes say the disputes are over state regulations and should go before state juries. The lead attorney for the parishes in the lawsuits has called the effort to have the suits moved to federal court a delaying tactic.

Yet, regulations and enforcement and management by many Wildlife agencies have saved the deer.

I’ve always had a good encounter with green jeans in many states. The only instance was years ago in TN. I was 17 and went to see my stepdad and brothers at a local trout pond to pick something up from them. I can clearly see a “hidden” green jeans across in the cattails. Younger brother asked me to bait and cast out his fishing rod so I do it. Nothing else. Go back to the parking lot and 2 gj walk up to me asking for licenses, saying they saw me fishing, etc. I tell them all I did was bait and cast for my 10yo brother. After 10 minutes of him telling me how at 18 I can be prosecuted and other bs he finally let me go.

Yep, that's what I thought. Appears they have become more ticket happy in recent years...

Why mad at them.
Had an episode with them where I feel they were totally wrong. Just trying to get an idea if it's worth fighting to try get the fine tossed, or just pay it and move on...

I think it’s more frustration with game wardens giving out tickets unnecessarily. I’ve seen them cut some slack before but I’ve also seen them write a citation for something that didn’t happen.
This. Exactly. Great response...

All health and safety issues. Seems as though you are getting careless or just plain stupid.

Are you a slow learner or just like paying fines?
They are trying to keep you from
1. Drowning
2. Killing someone else with a wild boat when you fall out and then drown
3. Being able to put out a fire in your boat so you don’t have to jump overboard and drown

Been stopped twice in Grand Isle, both times for safety check. Once my 12 yo son was with me. While I was giving one of the GJ my safety stuff the other ask my son if he knows how long trout had to be to keep them. My son says, “ Yep, 12 inches”. GJ ask him “are all your trout legal?” My son answers “we had to step on a couple of them but they all legal now”! Old GJ busted out a laugh and we went on our way. Kids.

The fines arent very expensive. If its your first violation they will likely give the option to take some kind of online "class" instead of payment, or a reduced payment

Thanks, dad, was totally unaware until you just now mentioned it
Really worried about a blazing fire starting and engulfing us on my 14' outboard with a 25 hp motor. The lifejacket and kill switch i can understand, esp the kill switch.

Reminds me of a story I heard…. My buddy was duck hunting and got checked by the GW. The GW asked if they were the ones that shot a pelican he found. My buddy quickly replied, “Nope that wasn’t us, those things are too hard to pluck!”

Agent claimed it was going to be a "hefty" one. First alleged violation. No other options offered up. Very adamant about just paying the fine...

My apologies if you already mentioned it in this thread, but what was the violation?
