I've only seen two foxes ever & they were together. I was bowhunting and I heard them coming through the woods. I froze before they came into view but the lead one spotted me anyway about 25yds out.
At the beginning of the hunt I had cut up an apple and threw the pieces out under my stand to give the deer a reason to stop for a second.
So the lead fox spots me at 25 yds. He keeps coming toward me tho, never taking his eyes off me, until he gets to the first apple slice. He puts his head down for just long enough to pick up the apple piece, and then trains his eyes back at me. He then slinks off with his head cocking back every second or so to look at me, until he gets back to the other fox, about 30 yds away, who had just frozen in place the whole time. I never saw them again. Damnedest thing I ever saw.

While driving through a small town in S AR I saw at a distance what I first thought was the biggest damn squirrel that ever lived. It was sitting in the shade in the middle of the street. As I got closer I realized it was a red fox. I drove to within about 100' before it got up and pretty calmly trotted into a culvert.

Killed two in the same year while bowhunting (seperate hunts). Couldn't do it in a million years if I went out intentionally fox hunting with a bow.
Both had their nose to the ground and were following the exact path a rabbit had taken maybe 45 minutes before.

I killed a red fox just west of Woodville, (around 11:00 in the morning) a few years ago with a Glock 23.
I'm convinced it had rabies or some other illness - was walking slowly & "wobbly." First shot hit right beside its head - 2nd round was a headshot. If he hadn't been really sick, there's no way I'd have gotten off a second shot.
And, no -- I didn't touch it. Didn't want to contract rabies or cooties.

I saw a blond colored grey fox while turkey hunting a couple weeks age west of Eldorado, TX.
I have video on my I-Phone but not sure how to load it to here.
He never saw me and it was a beautiful animal. It looked white when I first saw it but as it got closer and I got my phone going it had the colors of a Golden Retreiver but was clearly a fox.
We have quite a few grey foxes out there and I have seen them several times a year during the day while hunting.
BTW, there was a roadrunner following it and I got that on video as well.
Turkey hunting was not good but it was a gift to see and that is why I love to hunt!

I was ground hunting a couple of years ago out behind a buddies house and I had a good sized fox walk right up on me. He got within 10 yards of me before he saw me, then he just turned around and trotted off. Very pretty animal

I had a fox in my backyard last night (subdivision) at about midnight. Walked out back and the thing started screaming at me or something. Couldnt see it great, but looked grey, but was definitely a fox with the big bushy tail.
I've seen one red fox while hunting, pretty creature.

having grown up in Port Neches, i'm having a hard time deciphering what you mean by "near Nederland, TX" unless by "near" you mean ~20 miles...which would put you closer to Winnie, Sour Lake, etc.
