First off - any objections to a making this "the official foraging thread" so I dont keep making threads about different foraging trips and to help consolidate information and help when it comes to IDs??

Anyway - hit my local mushroom spot again this morning and found some more fall oyster mushrooms, Pleurotus ostreatus.

Around 5.5lb haul today. I plan to put this in a venison pot roast and use some homemade beef, venison and mushroom stock I've got in the freezer. Should be delicious.

Also found these that I'm still trying to ID:

For you Louisiana folks, I know lots of oyster mushrooms and some chanterelles are popping up in Central LA so keep your eyes peeled when in the woods. Oysters will likely be growing on decaying willow or oak in or near water.

Didn't realize that chants popped out this early but now I'll keep an eye out for them. I snagged a onion sack of oysters while I was hunting last week. They were mature so I am drying them to make mushroom powder for gravies and potions.

I tried my hand at drying and also cooking some. Check out my thread on the F&DB here: Drying and preserving oyster mushrooms

Looks like lions mane.

Not sure how many I got lbs wise yesterday. But they’ll fill a crisper drawer in fridge. About to dehydrate another lions mane.

I started foraging mushrooms, specifically Oysters last fall. Haven’t dried any yet.

I’m in NELA, I’ve seen a single Chanterelle here and there but never enough to harvest.

Makes a pretty good faux crab cake too. I’ve got one located the size of a basketball and another about half that size way up in a tree. Can’t get all the way to it in a climber. Probably why it’s still up there.
