I know that thread has gone astray, but I'll say that I believe that a gun that is properly stored (in a holster with trigger guard covered) is "safe," even with one in the pipe. To add another cliche to the list, I believe there are no accidental discharges, only negligent discharges. Some people see carrying a gun chambered, safety off like running around with a grenade with the pin pulled, but it's really not if you are proficient with your weapon, which you should be before you ever carry.

I also don't buy that anytime you anticipate danger, you stop and rack the slide. If this is the case, then everyone should skip their CC class and attend a seminar on using spider sense to anticipate every dangerous situation that could arise.
