I didn’t plant before this round of rain. Very conflicted on if I should have or if I did the right thing by waiting

In May, I planted a mix with a variety of stalky plants like Milo, millet, sunflowers and sun hemp. Have thick Japanese stilt grass.so I sprayed with clethodim 3 weeks ago. Too much debris to drill into so I’m going to bush hog plots tomorrow and use my no till drill to plant into the stubble. Will spray with glyphosate the day before I plant. Hope to plant 2nd or 3rd week of October depending on rain forecast.

Where are you located at?

Ever year I get the itch and always try and plant too early

I came down with some sort of bug this afternoon and now sit with a 102 fever and going to miss my planting day tomorrow. Guarantee we get 3” of rain Wednesday

Maybe a blessing in disguise…

I’m in SE Claiborne Co. MS. Will be planting Stratton Bounty Hunter and will add about 50 lbs/acre of elbow rye.

I thought about taking off work tomorrow to plant ahead of this rain, but going to take the advice of this thread and wait until we a good rain in October

I would definitely wait. Never mind the date and time on these pics because they're not right. I believe this was 2020, planted a day before a rain and the plot went from dirt to green in 4 days.

I’m going to wait. I have all my seed in (made my own mix this year rather than buying a mix), so just need some good October rain

people dont realize that waiting isnt that bad at all.

Deer prefer young, supple oats, wheat and anything else you plant. The plots will be fine even planting into november.

Mentally I know that and I keep having to remind myself.

Just sucks to watch hunting season start to go by with with plots being straight dirt

I know the feeling. But, 2 years ago I killed a good buck standing in the dirt.

better to have dirt with viable seed than dirt thats going to grow weeds and/or have to be replanted

That is my take. I'm going chop, seed and cover and just let it do its thing. 90-100 degree temps are hopefully behind us and the morning dew will get things going. It worked out last year.

Are you spreading fertilizer at the same time? I know P and K are pretty stable, but without rain in the forecast I always worry about N loss.

I see overnight temps approaching the 50’s this weekend. We sprayed 2 weeks ago and will disk this coming week. Our plan is to plant the weekend of the 17th.

Yes. But I'm not going to over do it. I'll probably add some a few weeks later when I go bow hunting.

I planted this past weekend in CenLa. Hoping the wet mornings will dew its thing and get it going until we get a rain. Will reseed in mid November when I get back up if nothing comes up

Definitely had some rain a few days over the last 7 days! Rolled the dice and looks like it worked out.

I had everything ready to rock and roll going into Sunday. Rain gauge at the camp said 3 inches of rain as of this morning at 11am

I’m a happy man sitting at work today
