Anyone been down post Ida? We headed down this weekend to work on camp and maybe fish a little. Just seeing if anyone had any info on how bass/marsh made out.

Went weekend before last just when river started to rise from IDA. 4 of us fishing in mornings while tide was falling before working on camp. Limits of 40 on sat and sun. All from a 1 mile stretch of bank. Caught a few trout and couple reds Saturday afternoon near redfish bay.

I know a guy who knows a guy who talked to a guy, whose buddy flew over the marsh and said it was in much better shape than he anticipated. I'm sure not much grass. But the marsh itself was still basically intact.

Duck feed and the marsh are both in excellent shape after this hurricane . Venice dodged a major bullet.

How is the fuel situation heading down? Going to camp 1st time since IDA and trying to figure out if the Race tracks are open in Gretna.

Race track at the front of HWY 23 is open, full service. Not much after that.
Not sure about VM.

When we went down 2 weeks ago, the Racetrac quoted was open and the one before the draw bridge also was open. State Oil was serving breakfast and had gas also. After that, the Fill-a-Sack in Jesuit Bend was open but had no gas. Nothing else was open after that. Leaving BR tomorrow at 10 am to head down.

Dad and 2 buddies caught a limit of bass yesterday, but fish were small.

Also headed down for some work and play on Saturday-Tuesday. To many football games to attend this time of year for the Friday haul. Great news on the bass, I was worried until I saw your previous post. I was hopeful we were not looking like post Katrina on them suckers.

Some guys posting in the FB Venice fishing group said cypress cove has fuel now. Will see tomorrow when we get down there. Bringing some full cans in case since pops has been on the water at the camp since yesterday.

Wanted to update this as I'm down now. I haven't been to the marinas first hand (when they were open hunting now) but I am told they have bait and fuel not sure of live bait.

Gas stations have fuel all the way to Ellzey's but limited not all pumps are open. Food still limited so bring what you need there. When we return to the marina I can update further.

Cypress cove had gas. My pops filled up the boat when he came to pick us up. They had another 30 bass this morning and we caught another 10 this afternoon. Couple trout and reds near south pass. Headed for snapper in the morning then more bass fishing.

One snapper and a cobia out of pass a loutre this morning. Couldn't find clean water for bass due to 4 days of north wind, so ended up with 13 today. 10-12 trout and a couple reds this afternoon down near south pass.

Got down mid day. Last hour before dark after working on camp went and caught 5 bass and 1 red. Plan is fish morning and evening and repair camp mid day. Oh yea the crabs are thick also.
