Anyone ever been checked on this? After watching a tv show with people fishing at night and catching a limit before and after midnight. They put them in 2 different boxes and taping shut the pre midnight box. This was a LA game warden telling them this.

What if you used two different ice chest on the boat? Would it fly if checked by The Man?

That's what we have always thought. Been doing it for 40 years that way. If you stop in different waters better be legal in those waters. Never had an issue at the docks when coming in though. Knock on wood.

I think your problem would be the wording of "possession limit". If you have two separate ice chests on the same boat, you're still in possession of over the limit if you caught a full limit in each state.

Maybe if you left one ice chest back in the truck.

I fish off the MS gulf coast and do this all the time. Launch in MS and run to LA waters. If you catch some thing in LA that’s not legal in MS like a 13” trout you can’t fish in MS after that. Or vise versa, have 10 20”+ trout on board from MS I would not go to LA after that.

Not about being greedy. More like the others said. What if I go across and only catch 7 fish and then hit a reef close to the launch. 13 isnt legal in MS and i get pulled up on how could i prove i caught it in LA. I could show my GPS track that i was there but doesnt prove I caught it there. What if i am greedy at keep 7 20"+ at Cat then run over to flatboat?

Just thinking while waiting on friday to get here again.

Too much effort to drop a cooler at the truck and go back. Once we hit the launch we are done.

You're asking to get ticketed if you have more than 1 day's limit on board the boat at any given time. You better either be able to prove you were staying at a camp accessible only by boat or aboard a vessel with a cabin that you could reasonably say it was a multi-day trip. Not a "fishing from 9pm to 3am" and trying to justify to green jeans that you can keep 2 days limit.

You need to follow the size limits for whichever state you actually stop to fish in.

If you launch in MS to run out to fish the Chandeleur Islands or Biloxi Marsh, then you can keep LA size and creel limits......as long as you don't stop in MS waters to fish on the way back to the launch. If you stop to fish in MS on the way back, then anything in your ice chest needs to be compliant with MS regs

Really worth it for a few extra fillets?

If your actually fishing MS and LA waters in one outing from the dock keep the more restrictive length and amount of the two states’ limits that way you are complying with both

That won’t work. You will get cited by Mississippi DMR for undersize fish. You cannot stop in Mississippi and fish after leaving Louisiana waters with fish that are not legal in Mississippi.

Rules for TransportIf your fish meet Louisiana limits (13-inch minimum) but are under Mississippi's 15-inch minimum, you must travel directly to the dock. You cannot stop or fish in Mississippi territorial waters on your return trip if you have fish that measure between 13 and 15 inches.Filleting fish at sea is illegal if it prevents wardens from checking the size limits.

Also need to file a float plan with MDR to bring possession limit back to Ms.
Not sure why anyone would fish three days unless it was catch and release only. Years ago several outfits were giving out terrible info on transport of filleted fish and possession limits.
