I just picked up an early 80s series 70 govt model from my dad, and wanted to hit up the board for some advice.
This one is 100% stock and in great condition, but I would like to change out the grips and sights.
I would like to put on some thicker grips, and would like to hear some recommendations on places to get the sights changed in the Lafayette area.
Also, this is the first blued pistol I've had, and would like to hear your thoughts on holsters that limit wear and any opinions on storage in bore store brand cases.
I'm looking forward many days at the range with this thing.

Blueing is going to wear. Even the softest leather will polish away a finish with enough time. Grips are easy, so many options. I have VZ grips on mine.

I just found out today that Magpul makes 1911 grips? Anyone here have any?

The Magpul grips are cheap and they suck. VZ is the way to go.

I'm guessing VZ's standard thickness are thicker than my stock wood with the colt medallion (0.25" I believe)?

Hey, that's a pretty sweet looking gun. I would want to swap the hammer and the grip safety to a beaver tail assembly before I would swap grips. Grips are a dime a dozen.

They have both regular thickness and thin profile grips IRRC. VZ grips

I'm seeing now that vz is .270" vs my .250" stock grips. I'm wondering if there will be a noticeable difference that I'm looking for. I guess I'll have to look for a shop that has them in stock to see.

I wouldn't change a thing, especially the grips with the Cold medallion. That pistol is a classic.

Most large firearm retailers regularly supply them. They're quite popular, and for a reason. You shouldn't have trouble finding some.

That's a fine looking gun. If you change anything, keep the originals.

Looking to change out the grips for comfort and so I can keep them in their current state. I want to keep this one as stock or change only things I can reverse. If I fall in love with this platform (current glock lover), then I would like to get a custom job with all the bells and whistles down the road.

Nice!
Be sure and keep all original parts.
