My neighbor showed up the other night with some squash and zucchini from his garden.

Good grief you guys back home are already getting veggies out your gardens? I'm just planting mine here in Colorado this week and that's using a greenhouse.

i just watered and put some miracle grow on my garden.
i have about 25-30 small squash that should be ready in a couple weeks. my tomato plants are exploding right now. i have some huge maters but they just wont turn red.
is anyone having problems with their bell peppers or okra? mine do not seem to be growing like rest of garden.

That was my problem before the rain last week. Now everything seems to be taking off. The okra is still a little slow.

My okra is growing pretty slow right now too. I think the cool nights here in NELA are the cause of this. When the nights start staying warm I should see a big difference. Okra likes the warmer temps.

Man, when did you plant your tomatoes and what kind are they? I have a ton, but they aren't even close to being picked.

Okra likes very warm temps. Anything below 72F, they will not grow. With the very cool nights, that been stunting them big time.
My bush beans are producting great were my second row should start producing 2 weeks behine. Oh, my rows are over 75' long. Nice to use a tractor for everything.

Had problems with my pepper plants in Colorado when I first started growing them here. The night temps here in the spring and fall drop down in the 50's and they basically shut down growth at night during those times.
Without a greenhouse you can't grow things like peppers or any other tropical plant. They just shut down in the cooler night temps.

Picked 2 bell peppers, 3 cucumbers, handful of okra, and about a dozen and half blackberries on Friday. Cherry tomato bushes are loaded with green fruit, and my creoles have a few small developing ones.

Got three eggplants so far too.

shock them and they'll turn red. Shock them by watering them as little as you can without hurting the plant.

I planted the garden around feb 25th I have been picking the big tomatoes for a month and the cherry tomatoes for over 6 weeks. I always plant in February unless the wet ground doesn't allow me too. To those of you wondering about okra it is the only thing I don't plant early it won't grow at all with cool nights they like that 90 degree plus weather. The drier and hotter the better when it's too hot to grow anything okra is at it's prime.
