I was looking at Redmax vs Stihl recently. Both straight shaft units seemed much longer than the residential trimmers I've had in the past.
I did run a commercial trimmer for a yard with two handles and a sling for a yard company back in college one summer.
The power was amazing, but not really very functional around the house.
SO, I'm still debating how much of a trimmer I actually need. Any thoughts on tier and differences between Stihl/Redmax?

keep good fuel in it
Ethanol free fuel in all lawn equipment...period. Stihl makes great lawn equipment, you will not regret spending the extra $$$; Mine is 7 or 8 years old, always starts easily, destroys anything in its path.

Yea I didn't care for the stock head. Had to stop 3 times to fix the string
I used to have the same issue until the guys who service them, showed me how to load the string. Never had an issue since.

Same here. I've had a KM55R for almost 7 years and never had a problem with the stock Stihl head feeding. I've replaced the bump surface for this season. Use Stihl and Echo .095 line only. Also have a KM56RC-E I acquired last year. I put a Echo SpeedFeed head on my dad's Husqvarna trimmer because the original has been worn out but I didn't see anything about it that would make me replace a Stihl AutoCut head with one.

Switched from Stihl to RedMaxx two years ago at our recreation park. Have been very reliable, but the power difference is significant. The RedMaxx will spin as much string as you want to let out. Upgraded to the Shindaiwa Speed feed heads as well.

I'm an electric guy. Stihl was rated the best. And I can vouchfor that.

You mean the Redmaxx is even better than the Stihl?
Also... I've read so much lately that says Echo is by far the best trimmer.
This is what I've gathered through all of the brand loyalty bullshite in tons of forums.
Redmax = Blower
Echo = Trimmer
Stihl = Chainsaws
Any differences to what the primary opinions tend to be?

i have a stihl string trimmer that is fricking up. (probably because of operator error).
the line constantly gets hung and won't release when i tap it.
its a slightly older model with the double line that you feed in without opening it.
any thoughts?

So far, yeah. The RedMaxx has out-powered the comparable Stihl. Haven't run a RedMaxx blower, but the Stihl and Husqvarna we use have been decent...may try a RedMaxx when one of those gives out.

I can't speak for reliability, but my neighbor has a four stroke Makita blower. I checked it out the other day and it looked pretty awesome. Started first pull and no mixing gas. He said he's had it for a couple years. I think I may look into it when the time comes to get a new blower.

I have stihl saws, only ones I plan on running unless they (company) start going downhill. Redmax blower that's probably 14 years old, only things I replaced were spark plug and fuel pick up in the tank. Newer Shindiawa weedeater, can't hold a candle to Redmax ones my family and friends run residential and commercial. Echo bought out Shindiawa too.

Some will say so but ask them to actually quantify their statement and it's reduced to a combination of their own and 3rd party anecdotes. I've had Stihl, Echo, Husqvarna, and Hitachi (Tanaka) lawn equipment and they all worked great with only the Husqvarna 125B blower crapping out on me. I blame the guy I loaned it to more than the blower itself though. The Hitachi blower was a fantastic machine and I'm sure the person who has it now is probably getting good service from it still. I had an Echo PB-250 blower that lasted almost 15 years with virtually no maintenance and my dad's inability to properly mix 2-stroke fuel. Probably still have it if he hadn't gotten lazy and threw it away only to replace it with a POS TroyBilt blower that didn't last 3 years. Bought him another Echo, PB-250LN, like my own. Stihl has never given me any problems, my little 025 just got a new bar and chain when I went in and replaced a leaking o-ring for the chain oiler along with the pick-up tubes and gas tank vent. After 22 years those parts should be changed anyway. Maintenance is everything for this stuff; good clean fuel, grease when and where it needs it, sharpen stuff that is supposed to be sharp, and keeping the crud from building up will make any quality piece of lawn gear last.

Congrats,
Everything I have is Stihl. Best thing to do now is to go to Autozone. When you go to Autozone ask for a carb cleaner called Sea Foam. White can red writting. Use it in your oil and gas mix and it will start everytime you pull within 3-4 yanks on the pull cord.
I use sea foam on my chain saw and the guys at the camp some cant even get theirs to crank and I pull mine out of the case and it starts so fast.
Sea Foam is the best!

Gotta friend that does yardwork for a living. He swears Shindaiwa makes the best leaf blowers and weed eaters.

I see half a dozen lawn mowing contractors out here in the neighborhood on any given day and you'll almost exclusively see Stihl, Echo, or Shindaiwa on their trailers. Doesn't matter if it's a one-man operation or a crew from one of the larger companies. Rarely see Redmaxx, Tanaka, or Husqvarna around here. That's probably more to do with local dealers than anything to do with quality of the equipment though.
