I'm just wanting to brag...
I went quail hunting this past weekend and got to try on a couple of different models/sizes some of the other guys had, and couldn't stand it. I sniped this off of eBay with tags for less than half of the cost new.
Actual photos of the jacket I bought.
Double layered shoulders, back and arms.
Game bag on back.

Why did you buy something if you couldnt stand it when you tried it on?

I have a pair of the double tin chaps. Those things seem to be bullet proof.
ETA: you will be amazed at how warm that jacket is as well.
I have a McAllister waxed cotton coat and it's very warm.

I couldn't stand not having one of my own.

Pro Tip, heat the jacket with a hair dryer before waxing and it will stink once waxed. My DT chaps lasted 20 years and stunk for 19 yrs.

I had some chaps, but out grew and sold them. I'd need a set of longs now as the old ones were high waters after college. My dad bought them and a vest for me when I was younger. The vest is legit for dove hunting and skeet shooting. The problem is quail hunting is colder and it's a tight fit getting in on over insulated carhartt bibs and a jacket.
This is the vest I have...

Filson's quality isn't what it used to be.

What does that mean? I watched a video about how to wax the tin cloth and he used a hair dryer. I've never done my vest, but plan to since the jacket comes with a can of it.

Thanks for poo pooing on me.
I'll use this response to post some pics from our hunt...

I have a number of Filson items, both hunting and casual clothing. All work as intended.

Honestly not a fan of waxed hunting gear in general. Do have a couple of obviously older Abercrombie waxed hunting jackets that I still squirrel and rabbit hunt with. But waxed gear doesn't breath well enough for me to use.

Where in Texas were you?
ETA- I have had a barbour jacket for years that I love. Great for rain and wind, but on its own it is not that warm.

About 20 minutes from Wichita Falls near a small community called Holiday, TX.

Okay was curious. Had a good friend from Shreveport out at his lease in texas recently and was wondering if I could finally figure out who you were.

I'm just bitter because I've had two issues with Filson in the past two years and they haven't fixed either of them. I have a Filson briefcase/bag that I use almost every day for work and I love it, but two of the buttons came off by no fault of my own. I sent it in for replacement because one was the button for the main flap that holds pads/laptop/etc. in, and they sent it back with two buttons that were silver when all the other buttons were bronze. Long and the short is that after like 5 calls back and forth, the QC warranty guy told me I could send it back in for replacement but I'd have to pay like $80 for the right buttons.
I would be stoked at getting the jacket at half of cost new regardless.

I had a hunt a very long time ago (maybe 1997 or 98) not long after I bought my coat. I have the liner for it at well.
There was a huge cold from that came through and temps dropped from the 60 to the mid teens over night.
I layered up pretty well under the liner and the coat.
the water wasn't frozen but if it splashed on you, it would freeze.
On the way back to the trucks, my coat had about an inch of ice on the front of the coat. Never once got chilled.
Didn't hurt that the ducked poured into our holes like they were in a funnel.
Oh, yeah. This is pretty close to the time that mojo duck decoys came out and it was my 1st hunt with mine. 1st time any of my group had ever seen one.
that thing was awesome. I remember one hen landing (while we were waiting for more to drop) and swimming around the pole looking up at the decoy wondering what the hell was going on. She was so pre-occupied that she never noticed me standing under some buck brush 15 feet away.

Sierra Trading Post gets Filson stuff from time to time.

The wax has a funky smell, almost rancid cooking oil smell. My filson cap just has a funk about it and i bave twice a day.
