Fellow vets, where do you get your guns?

I'm not looking for anything fancy just a couple of guns for protection at home and in the car.

Obviously Aafes is tax free but their prices aren't great.

AAFES sucks. I have rarely ever found a deal there. I'd look for a local store or sign up for Palmetto State Armory emails, and wait for a deal.

I met this guy that owns Dawn of Defense out of Georgia. Guy builds some nice guns. I get mine shipped to Melplat group in Metairie. Nice people.

I caught a 15% off sale at aafes earlier this year. Picked up an AR-15 during that one. It was a "take a number" operation when I showed up with about an hour long wait. I would avoid on base otherwise, because as already mentioned, the prices aren't great.

If you live near a base go ask when their next sale is. The one I bought during was an "anniversary sale".

Maybe the gentleman at Ft Bliss was lost, but when I inquired about a pistol I was told that I couldn't purchase from there from AAFES on post because I wasn't stationed there and/or a Tx resident. I was also told I couldn't purchase and have sent to the wonderful place of Ft Polk.

Get some scuba equipment. With all the guns that have been lost in boating accidents you’re bound to score big.

Sig and glock have some pretty good military, police and vets pricing. Go on their website, there are a few dealers in the local area that participate.
I got a really nice Sig 226 Legion a few years ago using the program. Saved about $300 off of what they were selling for in the stores.

Figure out what you want, and search the model + “Gun deals”. Gun deals will show you a close-to-live inventory of the shops with the best prices. Pick the best deal, send to tour FFL of choice and you’re golden.
