Ive done a few euro mounts for deer with the advice from bootleggers thread. They have all turned our great.
Now I have a boar's head with some nice sized cutters that I'd like to do.
I being told that boars are much harder than deer due to the amount of oil in the bones vs a deer. Most taxidermist around me don't want to mess with it. The one guy who does said it takes a few months to get all the oil out.

What's different and is it worth doing myself? Anyone ever done a euro on a boar themselves?

Yes, when I was 18. Didn't really know what I was doing. It doesn't look bad but it isn't bright white. I think I boiled it with borax and bleach. When I dumped the boil pot out the nose was floating around, I chunked it at my dad and caught him in the face with it. He wasn't happy.

I do them for people for $150. You have to take all the teeth out and clean inside them, also clean inside of the lower jaws. It takes weeks of degreasing to get the grease out so they will turn white and nit yellow.

I’ve seen fire ants build huge nests/mounds that essentially encapsulated a dead animal. I would believe that your hog head would be a perfect candidate. Once the meat is gone those oils should leech out better than sitting in boiling water. Water and oil don’t mix. Sunlight and ants would be my go to. Then you can do your whitening.

I would think that a mixture of ammonia and water soaked over a few days would help.

I would think that ants would be a very long process.

There’s a possibility I hung one outside my mother’s house and forgot about it for about 3 years until passing by it. Jaws separated and ended up finding the lower about 50 yards away. Aside from a couple teeth missing it was beautiful. Epoxied the jaws back together and it’s sitting in my office.

Stake a hog head down in an ant pile and they will make short work of it. I mean, an ant colony has a lot of ants in it.

I do hog skulls the same way. Made a larger cooking bucket for them. Teeth will likely come out, but not bad to sort and put back in. Pulling the tusks can be a pain, but they need to come out and the cartilage inside washed out. Drill hole in back of skull to access a hollow chamber (full of fats/grease). Strong water/ammonia mixture (preferably kept warm ~115-120°) will pull the oils from the bone. Just keep changing out the mixture until it quits getting cloudy. Pull out, let dry, whiten same as deer. Fill tusks w silicone and reinsert.

I hung the one I shot this year in a tree. I tied the mouth so I don’t lose the bottom jaw when it falls off. It’s will be ready sooner or later.

Best way is the maceration process. Then afterwards degrease. Best way to decrease is acetone but very costly since it can’t be diluted. 2nd best way would be ammonia, just need to take your time.

Watch a few YouTube videos of maceration, it takes alot longer but usually ends up the best quality euro mounts.
