Those seem like solid choices in the value range.

I also see Mossberg Patriots around but don't know much about them.

I know the old mossberg 100 ATR was a fantastic rifle. Patriot is supposedly better.

I have put down more game with a Savage Axis 270 than any other. I have dialed that thing in with home loads.

What is the point? Ammo is probably still supersonic out of a full length rifle barrel. What are you gaining?

at 1 in 7 twist on 16" barrel around 900 fps. Plus a can. Gaining a lot.

I have Mossberg Patriot in 308. Ditched the cheap scope that came with it and put a leupold on it. I like it fine and it shoots well. I bought it as a backup so I don't use it a lot.

I guess you could ask, what are you not losing?

Your hearing. Shooting subs in a bolt action with a can will not hurt your hearing.

Also, have a Ruger American Predator in .308 and it sits in a magpul american stock.
Great gun especially for the price. I liked it so much I bought my nephew one for Christmas a couple of years ago. His girlfriend at the time (now fiance) bought him a magpul stock for it.

But the American is hard to beat for $475 and that leaves money for glass.

I was lucky to get mine for $275 off the shelf at Academy in 2019 before the great plague. Lost it in a boating accident though.

I have been told this is a rebranded Howa rifle, can anyone confirm or debunk this?

I think you are talking about a Weatherby Vanguard

No, I have a Howa. The Patriot is not a Howa.
