Good afternoon,

I want to know how members of the OB handle encroachment while hunting. Last two public land hunts I've made I've had to go tell somebody something. It's not even kids that are doing it. Full grown adults.

Little more detail would be helpful...

Deer hunting? Duck hunting? Where?

I was bow hunting Saturday AM. See ole boy walking in with a blue academy bucket, squirrel hunting. He’s about 35 yds away.

No big deal, public land.

He then sits on the bucket right there. I then begin to whistle to notify him of my presence.

He finally sees me, I’m waving, he does some hand gesture, acknowledging me, but stays put.

I’m baffled, realize he’s not bright and/or the least bit respectful, so I climb down, making as much noise as I could. He then moves up 20 yds away or so, sits again. Still he’s right there from where I’m hunting. Him with a shotgun looking for squirrels while I’m right there in a tree.

I wanted to do something but ended up making a bunch of racket as I packed up and left. Felt nothing productive would come of it as I didn’t have a cool head.

Went scout a new area.

I’m still pissed about it.

It’s public land, you just have to deal with it or spend some money and go private.

I went squirrel hunting Saturday morning on public land. I could see the squirrels moving but I was making too much noise walking in the leaves, so I decide to take a seat on my bucket and wait for them to come to me. I guess in the meantime some jackass climbs a tree right where I’m hunting and starts whistling at me. He waves at me, I acknowledged it and tried to get away from him. Ended up just leaving angry, happy I didn’t do anything stupid.

Lol

It might hurt me if he fires back with a scatter gun.

Duck hunting but where doesn't matter. We got to our spot first then some jagaloon came and setup 50 yards away from us about an hour after we got there. Shined flashlights and yelled but no acknowledgement. I think what it boils down to is people don't scout. They just wake up one Saturday and decide they goin hunt. Really annoying but unfortunately nothing anyone can do to stop them.

Just start shooting decoys

A buddy's dad showed us that one when we were young in the spillway. We set up decoys. Tuck boat under a tree.

Guy passing by sees decoys and sets up 50ft away.

Buddy's dad waits until he's settled, puts in a Turkey choke, and proceeds to destroy every single decoy on the water. All the while loudly doing commentary of ducks begging for their lives

Guy left about an hour into it.

Dude it’s public land, as much as it sucks, there’s nothing you can do.

Went duck hunting one morning and some guys set up about 50 yards away from us 15 minutes before shooting time. Anytime we would work ducks towards our hole, they would shoot at them when they were passing by them. They were definitely sky busting them and it really pissed us off. frick hunting public land

You can bitch or even shine your arse and the State will step in and turn it into a draw hunt. That will seem like a great idea until they do pre draws with an algorithm that benefits OSH and First time hunters in order to boost sales of licenses. At which point you will be out on your arse wondering WTF happed.

If you are close enough to where a squirrel hunter carried in a 5 gallon bucket then you were likely hunting too close to the road. But as said its public land, not much you can do.

My gripe isn’t him hunting, it’s noticing another hunter and then setting up extremely close.

Dangerous and unethical, maybe illegal under hunter harassment laws or that land’s rules even. Shouldn’t matter how far from a road that situation takes place.

But you’re right, not sure there is anything to do.

I quit duck hunting at a pretty expensive "productive" private lease because this same thing happened on a regular basis. People are just fricken rude.
At least at a deer lease some one shoots a deer 100 yards from you it won't ruin your hunt.
