Went to Montana a couple years ago to hells a roarin outfitters thanks to fellower ob-er. Got a mule deer but no elk. Hunt was awesome but very grueling on horseback. Since then I’ve had knee surgery and a problem ankle so don’t think I’ll be able to make that hunt again.

Nonetheless I gotta kill an elk, anyone have any recommendation on outfitters that hunt less rugged terrain? I know may be too locate for 18-19 season but need to get something locked down. Bucket list is to kill one with a bow but I’m good with a rifle hunt as well.

Went with Black Mountain Outfitters in NM several years ago on a cow hunt. Killed first day. Pricey but you don't have to walk much.
Killed one bull and one cow on DIY hunts in CO. Cheaper but pretty tough.

You won’t hunt with better folks. Archery is in Montana and rifle is in Wyoming. They have land that joins on both sides of the border. Rolling hills around 4,000’. Me and my friend killed two great bulls in Wyoming with rifles in September. A bow hunter on the Montana side killed one around 400” while we were there.

You need to consider buying pref points and where you are going to hunt? Private land tags for any decent Bull will generally be a lot more $$$. Private land is a lot more money, many places you can hunt wilderness areas or parks and the guides will have private access only to those areas. So you have to get a tag through the state, but you are essentially hunting private land.

I have 3 wy preference points already and haven’t bought one this year so can hopefully draw in any area.

+1 for this outfit. Grew up with Bo’s wife, Kristen. They’re good people.

My dad and I had a great experience at Wheaton Creek Ranch in Ocate, NM. Both killed bulls by day 3. Saw a bunch of elk. Lodge was great and hunting was easy.

It was super easy. Very different experience every than my first elk hunt.

The New Mexico hunt involved short rides in a Polaris utv, followed by hikes of less than a mile through relatively easy terrain. When we shot our elk, we would call in a guy with a tractor who would load it in the front end loader and bring it back to camp.

The hunt I made in British Columbia was very different and involved lots of mountains, long horseback rides, and ended in a weeklong Canadian hospital stay for my dad. That was a hard hunt.

Check out the Flying B Ranch in Kamiah Idaho. It will cost you but they're good.
