The decline for us has been about 10 years

I've noticed it too. The restoration projects are keeping the water higher than normal so our ponds are much deeper now. Great for fishing, but terrible for good ducks.

Season has been spotty for us. Have a lease between East Bernard and Eagle Lake. Very few mallards this year so far. Pintail numbers are waaay down also for last year. One odd thing is we have red heads this year. Before this year we rarely saw any because we are 75 miles from the coast. We shot 7 in one hunt before the split and 4 this past Friday. Teal numbers are pretty good. Gadwall numbers are down like pintail.

Our lease is 860 acres with about 280 acres of rice and 70 acres of water. Good habitat. Bird numbers are just down in our area.

I think I know where yall are. Do you hunt on section 30?

Half of 31 & 32. Which section are yall on?

The late 90's were almost surreal. We used to not even shoot teal unless the weather was crap. Started to dive in the mid 2000's during those drought years but then rebounded some. Last 4 years have been a sharp and very scary decline!

Been hunting this lease since 1983. Much less Ducks in the skies now than during the 3 duck, 30 day seasons. Anyone who says otherwise hasn't been hunting long enough or their memory is crap.

We are on the bottom 1/3 of 18 and top 2/3 of 19. My dad has had that lease since 1978. Blackbird Bayou runs right through our lease.

Before that he had section 13. Which was good into the 80s but whatever changed and it stopped holding ducks. Section 30 used to hold tons of birds, and lots of geese.

I’m sure you have fond memories of the great thing we had there for many years. We sure do. Dad said he went to the camp last February and the birds were in the area like old times. The habitat is great. No clue what’s happened. It’s been a high water year, but back when we had birds to begin with that didn’t make any difference. The birds would just move to the potholes on the marsh prairie.

Saturday following thanksgiving I listened to
Someone due east of me pounding away for 2 hours. Either they were shooting at dragon flys or they have ducks and are lousy shots.

We are close with the guys that lease 29 & 30 now (use to be the Blanchard Lease). Went ride through for them last Saturday and didn't jump one bird on the entire place. That's scary for as much open water as they have.

Wait. Car Ramrod says that isn't true.

I remember that thread. What area specifically was it? I’d be interested to see water level data pre and post.
