I just dont see there being as many ducks as it has ever been since I was born. We used to slaughter ducks in places where you are lucky to get a limit nowadays.

There are reasons for this in some cases. The feds don't like saying anything because they need folks to buy duck stamps in all areas. The changes in miagration are well documented if you know a federal bioligist that will tell the truth.

One example, rice production moving from South Louisiana to NELA and SE Arky has without a doubt changed the miagration of certain species. This happed gradually as more and more rice production was moved North. If you dig deep enough you can find documented data on these trends.

Last season over all was good, not great. Had a problem with no water the first split. Second half made up for the first split.

I'm convinced that there is only one factor that decides whether or not I'll have a good year in south Louisiana and that is river levels in North Louisiana, Arkansas, and Missouri. Water low = good season. Water High = not so much. Also if it is super cold with low water, that = holy shite I've never seen so many mallards in my life, which was two years ago. That shite was off the chain and I hope that happens again. Unfortunately those same conditions caused the big snow melt which caused a high atchafalaya river which totally ruined speck fishing for me all summer. I think I'd take a legit duck season over speck fishing though.

Yes, when duck seasons and limits got more liberal, lots more land went into habit that would bring ducks. Farmers saw that they could double dip from crops and hunters.

In the 80's we were allowed 10 pintails per limit. No shite.

It's only been true 4 times since 1956, and 2 of them were last year and this one.

See page 16 of the Trend Report at: LINK

But y'all are right that it might not matter given all the other factors that contribute more to local hunting success.

At $3500.00 a year, I let my blind go a few years back cause it had gotten so bad. First year there were over three hundred ducks harvested out of that blind. Last year, 50+ and most of that from 3 limits on one opening day.

Last year friends who still hunt did have a good year, relatively speaking.
