My dad isn't much of a swamp fan though. He says looking back he must have been crazy to go through all that hell pushpoling through that nasty freezing cold wet shite just for a few ducks
I think he liked watching his dog retrieve more than he liked duck hunting, that was a great dog he had back then

You happen to go check out my dove field?
Not yet.

Go ride down there next time you're in the area. I think it'll turn out pretty good. I put a couple cameras out too around there.
Someone has been going down the canal next to that pipeline. The gate was down and there were plenty of tire marks. Probably catfishers.

As my son gets older I might have to bring him deer hunting back there a couple of times to break him.
He will appriciate upland bird hunting much more after a couple of trips in the swamp...

I'll go deal with that tomorrow

I'll probably print out a shitty map and laminate it and keep it in my bag for the hell of it. That WMA is so damn big you couldn't fit it all on a small map

The Diversion levees have been here for 60 years, I'm not sure how that caused a change.
I don't think I got that part from him when he was talking about duck hunting, it might have been fishing.
But it had to do with not helping the stagnant water in the swamps back towards the front of blind river.
They really need to do those diversion projects, it would help this whole area a ton

Along with your cellphone and wallet. You will get wet.

Last time I looked they made aerial photo fishing maps that have Maurepas.

I'm gonna laminate myself a map if i print one out
I might print it out in 2 or 3 sections, the whole wma, and just keep all 3 maps with me. Or just zoom in on the general areas I'll be sticking to and make maps of those. I'll see.

I think they dug a couple of canals and dredged some others and piled the dirt up on the swamp side, causing the water to stay there permanently. That's how it was explained to me at one tiem.

The swamps definitely have stagnant water, but I'm not sure why. The levees end when the Diversion hits the Blind River...

Seriously, put N, S, E, & W on the map

Ranger beads are the shizz if you know how to use them.

I'm far too inconsistent to use them.

Part of that diversion project is cutting a bunch of 500ft breaks in the berms formed from all the dredging over the years to let the water flow out into swamps

That parish canal is responsible for killing a bunch of maurapas swamp on the north side of it.

This is the type of terrain you can expect for most of it..
