Don is hammering Ben on this. I’m pleasantly suprised

Ben had to play defense the entire time and didn’t sound good doing it

Don's show comes out as a podcast every week, I listen to it sometimes on apple podcasts. If I see it when it comes out I'll post here.

Ben said “it isnt as much as you think it is” and then Don brought up the actual donations of $780k right after that. Made him and the industry look kind of dishonest.

Im not big into politics, but its funny for politicians to say it isnt much when the average louisiana household income is like $60k. Just shows how out of touch with reality most of them are.

$780k in contributions, what a dick.

He instead said “recreational anglers probably give way more to politicians” or something like that, which I dont think anyone believes
That’s exactly what he said.

He also caught Ben in another gotcha moments

After Ben brought up the by-catch study saying the industry has far less by-catch than people think, Don then asked him why the industry won’t pay restitution on that by-catch like every other recreational angler would. Ben replied having to do that would effectively end the industry, which made no sense. If the by-catch is that small then the fines should be manageable. But we all know it isn’t, which is why they are so against paying restitution.

Don also asked Ben why Louisiana should be different than the rest of the gulf states that have either banned or heavily regulated the lovey industry. Ben’s direct answer was “our coast are different than theirs. That’s why.” No follow up or further elaboration.

but usually he isnt talking to someone who knows the subject as well as Don Dubuc did during this interview.
I was really impressed by Don. He had clearly read up on everything and was ready to go.

Agreed. He did a great job. Came across as very reasonable too.

This is 100% on the greased palmed politcians. Did yall hear about how they were supposed to limit it to 1 miles and then the new gov got elected and it quickly changed to 1/2 mile?

Sad that our children’s and grandchildren’s future can be bought for such a paltry sum.
On a side note, Gary Haynes (Laffy DA) was sentenced to 7 years last week on federal charges. Next up is Jack Montoucet our former head of WL&F. Hope that cocksucker gets sent away for 7 also.

Thx for posting/updating on this

Much appreciated

I can't speak for the state as a whole, but I know those in my circles have seen enough of this kinda shite to dry up contributions

There is no excuse or rationalization for decreasing the buffer zone other than monetary gain for the benefit of individuals in a positions of power

Embarrassing and disappointing. I wish I could say surprising.

Who made this decision? Politicians? WLF? A commission? Someone needs to be accountable to answer the question as to “why”?

If it’s the commission, then who appointed them? Are they getting paid or is the politician that appointed them getting paid?

That’s where my breakdown in understanding is. If the people of Louisiana (the sportsman at least) are so against this, and have gobs of evidence against it, then why would the boundary get changed? Who can answer that question for the people?

When I learned there was a vote to decrease the buffer zone, I assumed this was a move intended to stop and satisfy those pushing for an increase.

Not in my wildest dreams did I think these idiots were that arrogant to think they could actually pull this off without major repercussions.

But here we are.

I don't care who runs against Landry in the next election. Whoever it is, they got my vote.

The commission meetings and Votes are a legal Formality only.
You will never see those guys do what’s right for the state of Louisiana.
I always wanted to see a brawl breakout and hands be throwed when attending.
