I have a Browning Sweet 16 handed down from my Grandpa and wanted to use it for dove hunting but I've heard that they won't cycle low brass shotgun shells. I have a 12 gauge that won't cycle low brass and the high brass pounds your shoulder's blue. Thanks for any info.

I'd think a lot of 16 gauge bird shot would be high brass. Just get some if you really want to shoot the gun.

I've got one from my grandpa too. That thing isn't the easiest recoiling gun I've ever shot, but it might be the most well balanced gun I've ever held.

The browning a5 has a ring that is adjusted under the hand guard. One position for high pressure loads another position for low pressure

Like ol' Clyde says i'd shoot it - I would say it should cycle just fine, my 12 will shoot anything.

You might need to flip the rings on that 12, there's a low brass and high brass setting. Google for image of each, or there might still be a diagram on the inside of the forearm of your shotgun.

Best damn autoloaders ever made baw.

Like Wick said there is a ring next to the spring in the forearm. You flip it over depending on if you are shooting high or low brass.

Stupid question. But how do you tell which side is which (the ring)?

"Light Twelve"

The Sweet is the same as the pic, the Mag 12's have 3 rings and are different than the Light and Sweet. I'm not familiar with the Mags.

In the pic, the only ring you move to adjust heavy/light loads is No. 3 - which is a thin steel ring beveled to fit No. 2, which is a brass or bronze friction ring/brake. If you oil the brass/bronze ring too much the shotgun will kick the shite out of you...fyi.

Yup, Friction ring - with the flat surface facing the spring (or the beveled surface towards the receiver), Spring, Bronze friction ring- with the beveled edge facing away from the spring or towards the barrel ring.

For any recoil operated shotgun, one must cram the stock well into the shoulder and lean into it. Sure it pounds the shoulder but work it my brother so it can recoil properly.
