Btw most Of the time the scent isn't what spooks them. Deer are naturally curious animals. The scent just puts them on alert, which makes it easier for them to see you move. Movement is what makes them turn and run Eta: this goes for slick heads, spikes and the likes not big ole pawpaws

Scent is 95% of hunting. Hunt the wind, and put everything scent-wise in your favor. Movement only matters if you've already passed the scent-check.

Never used either. After reading this I'm stopping at academy on the way home.

Don't use scent blockers. Hell, I smoke cigars in the blind while watching deer.

I use doe urine (in heat). I saturate tampons with it and tie them to a low branch. Bucks will walk right up to them and sniff and even lick them and not even go to the feeder. Seen this several times. I'm sold.

My dad has never shot a deer when he wasn't smoking.

If you don't think scent killers work, give primos xp silver a chance. I've gotten gas on my hand, sprayed it with the xp silver and the smell was immediately gone. I don't think you can make yourself scent free to a deer, but you can reduce your scent enough to make the deer think you are farther away than you really are. There is still no substitute for playing the wind.

Always be conscious of your scent. Try to keep you clothes scent free and spray down as much as possible. Can't over do that. Hunt the wind every chance you get. Remeber deer will travel up wind (especially older bucks) so keep that in mind.

Never had any luck with urine but have called several bucks in with grunts.

I know a few guys that will wear their camo around a camp fire. They claim its good cover scent. Deer smell smoke all the time and shouldn't get spooked by it. Don't think I'd go that far

Funny hearing about smoke....first buck I ever shot was 5 minutes after smoking a bowl. Shot him 10 feet from me from the stump I was sitting on.

I agree. Same at our camp. Guys keep their camo on around the fire. Mine come off and get picked up in my bag. They also say that a 4-wheeler won't spook the deer because they always hear them so their used to it. I just and shake my head. Thankfully, they don't go anywhere near my stands.
