Saw an announcement by the Holder Family who have the show "Raised Hunting" on the Outdoor Channel that season 5 has been picked up and will be aired on Discovery Channel instead of Outdoor Channel. They are also signed with Amazon Prime. LINK

This has long been one of my favorite outdoors shows. Great family and outstanding representatives for responsible sportsmen. Gratifying to see good people succeeding and being recognized with a huge step up and reach a mainstream audience.

More interesting is the fact that the Discovery Channel and Amazon appear to be coming directly at the Outdoor Channel now, with more straight up hunting shows being added to the lineups which are free for most cable plans instead of an additional cost like Outdoor Channel. This show will air on Saturday mornings on the Discovery Channel and joins Randy Newberg's Fresh Tracks on Amazon Prime.

My personal belief is that Discovery and Amazon both sense there is an underserved market here for the sportsmen, and that Outdoors Channel has largely squandered this market by promoting trash like the Wildgame Innovations show that was mentioned in a post earlier this week. Free market at work and our sport will benefit greatly in my opinion.

I saw Out Da Bayou on discovery the other day. I thought that was pretty strange.

Discovery Channel

Has gone the way of MTV and no longer airs content that made it popular. Basically just outdoor survivalist reality tv now.

Who even watches fishing/hunting on the Outdoor Channel when you have Waypoint TV with every conceivable fishing/hunting show on the air for free?

There's also Sportsman's Channel. Can't say which of the two I watch more.

I really don't get the appeal of that one.

by far the best hunting show out there. It isn't a bunch of kill shots and dudes whispering in a box stand. Steven Rinella is a great representative of the hunting community.

Meateater is great, awesome cooking tips too. It is available on Netflix as well. I'm pumped that more and more of the good shows are being picked up on the streaming services.

don't know what to tell you. It has some cool hunting, some great outdoor scenery, some excellent cooking guides, a variety of topics/animals, and some great conservation discussion.

I'm a big fan of Rinella's works, including the show, his books, and his podcast

but only 2 seasons. I'd love for then to air them all, but since Meatweater.tv exists, I'm not sure they will stream the shows elsewhere

Every time I have utned it on, it's been gun hunting. I don't watch any gun hunting shows.

Meateater is the one show my GF watches with me that is hunting and i credit that show for helping to get her to the next step of wanting to take her first animal.

Shows like pigman she hates and it turns her off to hunting
