Congrats, Loup. Looks like a tank

Thanks, first buck I've killed that got bigger when I walked up on him. You can't see in the pic but he has 3 brow tines on one side. I had to pack him out so didnt get a weight but ended up with just over 100 lbs of meat off of him. He's at the taxidermist now, can't wait to get him back. I shot him out of my camp chair. Had planned on glassing all morning to see where the deer were moving since I didn't have much time to scout the day before. 10 minutes after daylight he about ran me over chasing a doe.

I spent half the summer playing with my muzzleloader to get it to shoot long range and ended up with a 140 yard chip shot.

I tagged out for bucks in Louisiana, all public land archery bucks from 2 different NWRs. This is my 5th season hunting and it was a great season. I took two 8-points and a 7-point. The 7-point only had one brow tine.

Nice. Out west I assume? I wouldn't know where to start to hunt out west. Have always hunted where I live.

Awesome! Me and some buddies from Ohio are doing trips every year now. Well, this year I went to Ohio, they’re coming to Louisiana next year, and every third year will be an out of state hunt.

Yep. Wyoming. I’ve built points for years in various states. I made a thread about the elk hunt. It’s a lot of fun and a great challenge to take you hunting skills on the road. That bull will always mean a lot to me, as it was DIY on public land. I did get some great intel from some locals.

For you boys that like to travel, I’ve joined back up with an outfit I was with years ago. Should be a lot of fun. They lease land in Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa. There’s an online reservation system.

This has been the oddest season I've had in quite a long time. I picked up my lease in 2013, and this year, for the first time, I did not make a single hunt out there. Instead, my wife went out and punched a couple of our doe tags while letting a few bucks walk. We have a bunch of bucks on camera that we studied quite a bit. In the past few seasons she has been having a bit of a tough time controlling her trigger finger on younger bucks, so she took it upon herself not to shoot any unless it was a giant, and just watch them instead.

Meanwhile, I had a hunt booked in New Mexico and drew a Texas mule deer tag, so I was content. Tagged out on both of those hunts, so the freezer is packed and meat was given to family.

Thanks, man. I was incredibly fortunate! First time I’ve actually tagged out solely with a bow. It’s never easy!

That’s very interesting. What’s the cost look like?

I hardly hunted this year and didn't kill a deer, but my 7 year old boy got his first buck. That was better than me killing anything

$2,500. You get turkey, deer, ducks, quail, etc
I feel like you need to make a couple of hunts per year to make it worth it.

I have never tagged out. Most deer I’ve ever taken in one season is 3.
Normally I don’t kill more than 1. Work completely screwed me out of this season and last season, so deer better look the F out next year. I’m killing something.

yeah, on Big Bend State Ranch. I was pretty short on time for that hunt and shot the first mature buck I found, with the bonus that he was close enough to get out to a road. The hunt administrators would not let you pack them out. Ended up being a great deer to cull from the herd, the biologist aged him at 4.5.

That’s great. I apply in Texas as a non resident and have the dream of pulling their sheep hunt. Love the Big Bend area.
