re: Determining Value of a Bay Boat?

I found when boat shopping that people value 20 year old boats like 10 year old boats. I couldn't see paying over $20k for a 20 year old boat like this when you can get one half the age for only a few thousand more. I guess a running boat has a certain floor regardless of age.

That boat will have less value if the buyer realizes the problem with those engines. The 200/225s from 2000-2005 have corrosion issues due to the aluminum. Coolant system ate a hole in one of our original cylinders on our 2002 F200. 6-8 years ago, replaced the power head with one from a later model 225 ($5k). In the shop now about to have the exhaust tube /water jacket repaired since the aluminum has degraded ($2,300). Buyer beware.

at 20 years old , getting repair parts can be a problem. If the motor control computer croaks the engine maybe an anchor.

I think 15k is best hope for that old of a boat. Regardless of condition it’s a 20 year old boat from a value brand. Not knocking Nautic Star but they aren’t in the top tier as far as quality and won’t hold as much value as it gets older.

Take the book price and cut it in have, used boat prices are ridiculously low right now. I heard a dealer on a fishing show, say first thing I want to say quit telling what the book value is right now. I know what it is, and I also know you aren’t going to get anything close to it. There is a glut of used boats on the market right now. You can see this people on marketplace saying they will only take book value and the boats have been for sale a year or more.
I almost picked up a loaded 20 foot bay boat, for 5 k. I wanted to water test it the next day and guy behind me wrote a check.
For that I would think no more than 10k. I sold my 23 foot 09 nautica star with 15k of one year old electronics for low 20s, engine needed to be rebuilt but book value was in 30s. Just saying
