Seen some topics about surf fishing for Gulf Shores, etc. Wanted to check for some more intel. I’ll be in the San Destin area for the first week of June. Would love to catch some specks off the beach. Thinking topwater and suspending jerkbaits. I am also considering bringing a kayak to give hogtown bayou a try. Would throw the same plus some jigs. Looks like launch points would be the end of E Hewett Rd or Cessna Landing.

Sorry for the longish post and TIA. Tight lines everyone.

ETA: after several recommendations I’ll likely launch out of legion park and fish the bay west of Fourmile point.

Go check out the dune lakes. Mirrodines, gulp and Matrix lemonhead. There are some juvenile barracuda in there so you may need a wire leader

Any particular one you recommend? A barracuda would be something else

end of Baytown wharf pier on early morning out going tide, look for nervous greenback pods being pushed to surface near end of marina wharf, doesn’t matter what you throw as long as it gets past and under the pods, schools of big trout and redfish waiting, I kid you not...

My in-laws has a place on the bay there in San destin. I used to wade that bay and catch trout and reds. Best bait for me was a single gold Colorado spinner with jig head and matrix tail. There are sand bars that run perpendicular to the shore with troughs in between. The fish are in the troughs. A good morning there would be 3-4 trout and 4-5 reds. Good luck

No specs in the surf here. May be ladyfish and pompano along with other fish. Surf will probably be full of June grass and almost un fishable.

As said the flats to the west of the 4 mile point are better than the eastern side which is hogtown.

When we go to Perdido Key we catch sand fleas on the beach then use them for bait.

Pompano love them

There are some damn big bass in the little lakes in the SanDestin area.

My buddy won a weigh in with bass there one year.
