My wife recently informed me that we are going to her parents house in Bulverde Texas for Thanksgiving. I love my inlaws, so this isn't much of an issue. However, being that it is deer season, a unique opportunity has now presented itself.

The issue:

The deer population at my inlaws place is through the damn roof. The last time I was over there I counted 37 deer in their neighborhood, just on their street alone. They feed the damn deer & they are pretty used to humans. I've sat out on their back deck dozens of times and watched groups of a dozen or more walk around in the back yard within 20 yards of me. They are used to people and are not bothered at all by me walking around on the back deck... I have been threatening to thin these bastards out for years but never had a bow to do the deed...

Last year maw-in-law bought me a new crossbow for Christmas. (yeah yeah, kiss my arse about the crossbow bullshite, save that for another thread)

Now I should also mention that my inlaws live in a very fancy neighborhood. It's not a gated community but they do have a home owners association and that group is a bunch of fricking Nazis to say the least...

So my question is this... If I purchase the proper license, can I legally fling some arrows at these critters in my inlaws back yard? I'm already knowing that their home owners association will throw a shite fit if I am caught. My question is strictly about the legality of the kill.

What says the OB?

Next question... who lives close by & wants to offer me a place to skin the above mentioned deer?

or

Who lives close by & wants to invite me on a hunt Thanksgiving weekend? (I've got no issues shooting hogs either)

Thanks in advance!

Deer don't drop dead when shot. They normally run and bleed. The deer probably have names. The one you shoot will probably be names Cecil. This has bad outcome written all over it. I recommend going for it and taking photos.

I would be in the same predicament as you, because I would have the same temptations! But, being as you like your in-laws, I would steer away from making them the black sheep of a fancy neighborhood by having the "redneck, animal killer son-in-law".

There isn't a patch of woods nearby to hunt the same deer without it being in their yard? If their lot is big enough, maybe try it. But trailing one through a neighborhood make be risky..

And if things go south, remember to answer that you are from Alabama.

The deer are so thick over there that the home owners association was actually discussing allowing bow hunting inside the park in their subdivision.

No woods close by.

I think their lot is 3 acres.

I know that the deer will definitely run when i shoot it & shot placement is key for sure. But i could very easily sit and wait for the perfect shot to get a heart / double lung shot & minimize the distance it would run. They feed the damn things apples, hell you can hand feed a couple of them. It just kills me sitting there watching all those tasty deer 20 ft away. It's pure torture for a hunter like myself...

But what if he shoots them in the face?

Honestly. I would set up over a corn pile and make a head shot on the deer. Odds of the deer running are very slim

sounds like the neighborhood is full of vaginas and they probably wouldn't approach you if you did the deed.
go for it.

IF you do this and they make a fuss, you have to strap it to your hood and drive around the neighborhood. If you are gonna go out....you gotta make it worth it

Try and hand feed one. Cane knife to the throat. Oh, and a go pro.

As of now my plan is as follows:

Confirm that this is legal in the eyes of the law.

Go to H.E.B & get a sack of apples.

Setup video camera as per request by the OB

10 minutes before dark cut up said apples & toss them to the deer (just like they do every damn day)

At the last possible moment before legal shooting time... shwack...

Wait 30-45 minutes.

Under the cover of darkness recover said deer.

Load the beast in the back of my truck & go find a place to clean it.

There is no way in hell this is gonna happen at anytime of the day other than right before dark. I'll get busted & a shite storm will ensue. What I am really hoping for is that their closest neighbors are out of town for the holiday weekend visiting their inlaws. If that is the case, well it's on like donkey kong...

So again, step 1: Is this even legal?

rope the deer first, then kill it however you want to. that way it can't run off.

DEFINITELY have the gopro going if you try this. It'd be fun to see a deer tear you to shreds as it's going ape shite with a rope around it.
