Joyce is an absolute bitch to access.

I scouted it for ducks when I lived in BR, and decided it just wasn't worth it. I paddled a pirogue way back down the canal (more like a ditch) on the north side of the WMA. Lot of low hanging branches, gets very narrow in spots.

You're a better man than me if you want to go after a deer in there. Maybe the stuff on the west side of 55 holds some deer. That would be easier to get to than trying to get to the far east side, unless you could launch on the Tangy somewhere.

ETA: I may also be extremely biased against that place because of how shitty that scouting trip was.

Search the OB boards. There are several threads about Joyce. Bring your waders and navy seal training. Ive done it. Never again.

Ive also been thinking about deer hunting Joyce WMA. Going to buy a pirogue or canoe in next couple of weeks and try to plan something. Ive read a couple articles about Ricky Hano on sportsman. That man seems to love the place.

It's tough. Make sure you have a GPS and compass, and plenty snacks and water. It will be an all day affair. Ricky hunts in off the old railroad main line. Most don't make it that far in.

Yeah, I’ve read where he said it takes him 2-3 hours to get to his spot.

Gets there before dark, leaves after dark.

Even he said he’s been lost in there a few times.

I am with you, the deer in there can die of old age, they've earned it for living in that hell hole.

It's not hard to hunt. You'll see some of the best sights in there. I killed a 165+ deer last year on my place in Mississippi and I enjoy going back on Joyce more. You just need the right equipment and be smart about it.

Did some looking around for access areas on my way home yesterday on the low road.

I noticed the gate across the road close to the LAA. Is that a club or power company's gate or???
Looks like it goes back in there a good ways.

May be that sewage pipeline that everyone bitches about damaging the swamp
