I was hearing rumors about it, but didn't think they would actually go through with it. Man this sucks.

I bet It will go south of Vidalia to New Roads also if the Tiver keeps jumping.

I wonder if this will shut it down for the season or just a couple of weeks?

Whew some High Dollar clubs losing some serious CHEESE!. Wonder how much Giles Island is losing? Davis Island, Diamond Island!
Dam some pissed off hunters at Big Rack.

I don't think people are taking this rise serious enough. It's not suppose to crest until Jan 22nd or so with no more rain being taken in account. All 3 big rivers are coming up. We are making arrangements to move cows off the Red for the 1st time ever. We may be looking at a thousand+ year flood. I'm not saying it's happening, but this is the best/worst chance we have seen.

If the riverer drops they will open back up. But who knows how long it will be up? Also, how much season will be left?
Biologists have told me the deer move back in as quick as the water recedes.
The problem is there are unethical aholes that I have heard brag about shooting great deer in bunches as they come over the levee. Think what comes out of Diamond Island, Davis Island and Pt. lookout. Think Somerset, yuca tan, winter Quarters. I imagine Esperance Pt/ Glasscock, Raccourci are next

It would be bad arse to have some video from a helicopter of all the deer

It would be epic. Think Sarengeti Plains!

Both my brothers are members at Somerset so I hunt with them there every year. I can remember about 10 years ago when river came up and flooded Davis Island and there were deer everywhere. It wasn't hunting season but the amount of deer was crazy.

Giles Island
ftr, Giles is technically in mississippi. It was east of the mississippi before the gov made the cut in the river.

F them, I would hunt, opportunity for the Buck of a lifetime. Happens every year on the ouachita and chalk hills but nobody says shite there. But I know some ol baws right there close to Giles that are probably licking their chops, might be time to bum a hunt.

How far west will they close? My lease is in Larto?
Posted on 12/28/15 at 11:33 pm to LSUlefty
65 don't run that far south bro, but I don't know, larto is a good ways from the big muddy anyways. I don't think you have a reason to worry.

They have to protect those big money landowners on the river.
Posted on 12/29/15 at 6:28 am to lsu13lsu
I don't understand this comment of protecting the big money land owners along the river. Once the river is out of its banks, the deer are pushed to higher ground. Big money land owners currently east of 65 are pissed that the season is closed. Big (or small money) guys west of 65 are chomping at the bit for the water to push the deer onto them.
There are numerous people that are seeing their big money leases closed on them and there's nothing they can do about it. The rut is just starting and ther season is shot to shite. I just don't see where this decision has anyone rejoicing in the effected areas.

If you think your lease is worth a lot more than the land on the river side of the levee in those affected areas then I don't know what to tell you.
Posted on 12/29/15 at 6:49 am to lsu13lsu
That's not what he was saying at all
Posted on 12/29/15 at 6:52 am to Redfish2010
He is saying no one is rejoicing in affected areas. The guys on the river side of the levee are happy with it. They cannot hunt bc water is up and no one else can kill "their" deer.
I am from that area. I admit I do not fully understand his comment. But I do understand the area and politics of deer hunting there.

So you're saying these guys think "their" deer are going to stay in the flooded river inside the levee and not flee the area to higher ground outside of the levee?
"Their" deer no longer belong to "them".
