Holy shite I'm glad I've never had to deal with stuff like this.

The only thing close was when I went to hunt on a friends property. It's got a hunting club crescent around his property. I walk to my stand and there a big Dow under my stand. I let her leave hoping a buck will follow her scent before I get in it.

Well, 30 minutes into the hunt I hear dogs in the distance. Aparetly they smelled her bc they came straight to my stand and howled for a good 5-10 minutes under me. I put my scope on one bc I was pissed but I wasnt going to shoot a dog.

That's a little mind numbing there. That means his strip is like 96' x ~30,000' -- give or take since you said mostly.

This is your problem. You are hunting a place about as wide as a football field yet expect privacy. It's not going to happen. If you want privacy and exclusive rights to an area much larger, buy a lot more land or join a club. Don't expect your neighbor to alter what he does on his land in order to accommodate you.

But yea I understand the frustration. I have one plot of land similar to yours with rather active neighbors. Eventually I had to just accept the fact that it is their land, not mine, and my hunting is going to be affected at times. I suggest talking with the guy and see if you can work something out to keep from scaring the deer away from each other. But don't go in with an attitude like if he has to do things your way or he will tune you out and mess up your hunting just to spite you. Find common goals and talk about those.

Surely he meant yards. Still a very thin strip.

I'm thinking the lad needs a mentoring. Invite him to the campfire, get him drunk as frick, then start mocking him for shooting baby deer while you slide the conversation to management.

I know the guy is an a-hole but if you want to change his behavior that's your best bet. He might just not know any better. You go all rambo on a dipshit like that and you can bet your arse that from now on, if it's brown it's down forever. This is a job for maturity at this point. And manipulation. Sucks but there ya go. Might not be a bad guy. Just might be ignorant.

I've known the guy since he was a kid. He's around 26 now. Treated him like my little brother. I believe he actually doesn't have a hunting license since he was arrested for some dope a while back. I don't want him to get in any more trouble since he has cleaned up and has a young son.

I know it is their property and he can do what he wants but it just pisses me off to no end. I am gonna go talk to my dad this afternoon to see how he wants to handle it. I'm working on my paint picture.

That's one long strip of land! About 5 and a half miles long...sounds more like a powerline ROW.

The property is 40 arpents deep then opens up. There is a drainage canal that runs parallel with bayou lafourche called the 40 arpent canal. The property opens up on the other side of the canal. There is a 35 acre crawfish pond on the other side.

Yea, your only chance is to teach him. Your in the wrong position for a pissin match if your hunting his property. Def should have bought it, whether the wife was on board or not.

THE ARPENT: French Unit of Measure
Ordinary measurement used by Government Surveyors in South Louisiana.
Various areas and dimensions are given for the arpent
General Land Office Report of 1869, pg. 406, gives under the heading, Superficial Measure,

1 arpent = 0.8507 acres; 1 arpent and 17.551 perches= 1 acre.
1 mile square contains 725 arpents and 32.64 perches or 640 acres.
And Others Give: 1 arpent= 2.9172 chains, 192.24 ft., or 0.848398 of an acre,
10 perches= 1 arpent.
taken from a pamphlet produced by Orres Leblanc, Ckerk of Court- Iberia Parish

In the time of the French, property usually ran 40 arpents back from the river or bayou.

i missed that. honestly, i can understand your frustration, however, your land is only 30 yds. wide. i dont see what you can do, its thier land to do with as they please. you and your pops should have bought the adjacent land when you had the opportunity.
