Deer Heart

Got a fresh one. Saved many, but always end up giving them away or trashing. I'm determined to clean this one up and cook it, as I've always wanted to try it.

This might sound like a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway.

How do you clean this thing? Stick your finger down each chamber and hope you get it all? Cut all of that out more or less coring it? Or what?

re: Deer Heart
I cut the fat/arteries off the top then fillet the chambers open to remove the lil fibers. There's two chambers and if you cut it right you end up with two steaks

Haven’t saved the deer heart yet but we saved all our duck hearts this year to add to stews and gravy

It's tasty and easy. Get everything that isn't a clean looking red out of there, slice, marinate, cook a little. I think I ate 2 in one sitting because the family opted out. Iron count that week was stellar.

Save some. Season with spg. Saute in butter for a few minutes. Serve hot. Might be the best part of a wild duck.

I clean, slice and put garlic powder on them.

Pre heat the Fry Daddy.
