I’m looking to buy an electric reel mainly for deep drop fishing. Seeing what’s the popular make/models. Any features that may come with a more expensive reel that’s worth spending more on? Price range, etc.

I’ve been looking at the Shimano Beastmaster.

Any info greatly appricated.

What do you plan to use it for? Swordfish? or just grouper, tiles, etc.

If no swordfish:
Banex Kaigen 1000. Get it from Frigate sales, they'll take care of you.

If swordfish:
LP or Hooker electric

Thanks for the reply.
No swordfish. Just grouper, tilefish, etc.
Whatever I can pull off the bottom.

Go crank up a bunch of tile fish from 800ft by hand

You'd be switching after the first drop.

People that bash electrics are hilarious.

So are the people that claim it’s legit fishing

honest question. Are fish caught via electric reels allowed to place at tournaments?

this is your best bet, Buy your reel from James. He is local to Baton Rouge, and if you have problems he can fix it, plus he has best prices around

+1

Electric reels are fine if you want to meat haul but pressing a button to reel in a fish is not real fishing

Of all the people I’d imagine would agree with me, you would have been dead last on that list.

I had "I can't believe I'm agreeing with PP, but" typed out but decided to delete it

but nah, I enjoy fighting fish, not pressing a button

I've fished some that allow it. State records have to be on traditional hand crank tackle though. That's why there is currently no state record for tiles

If this is the case, why doesn't the cuck crew go out one weekend and just mop up some state records?????

I've been saying to do that since my days with a-team lol. Just never actually do.

And cuck crew is now 2 for 2 in tourney wins
