It didn't have the coloring of a permit in my opinion. It was actually why I was going to get my phone to see if it was a pompano, african pompano, or permit.

If it was an african pompano or permit it was right on the border of not being legal. I didn't think they got permit that big that far up the handle.

No idea I have never caught or seen one in person. Either way a nice fish to reel in from the surf. I can’t wait to go again

Going again in August.

I have to upgrade my gear. All those pompano were caught with $20. Walmart fresh water combos. The salt has done a number on them over the years.

I am going end of the month for a impromptu trip to GS. I been using Penn battles for a while and they do ok but will get stiff at times. I am slowly moving to some spin fisher VIs for my surf stuff for a little more protection.

I will likely go cheap on the reels again. If I can get the Walmart special to last 5 years I'm sure something rated for salt will last as well.

I use them basically once a year for salt fishing, the rest they become my catfish rods. I will invest in a 10 foot rod so I can sling them further.

Definitely get a longer rod it will improve casting distance. I go 4-5x a year, every year (fam has a condo there) so I use them often enough to invest.

I think the 10+ foot rods are necessary at the flat beaches with long tides. Have to go 100 yards to get three feet deep.

But I can get away with a regular 7 foot rod at hatteras because it is 5 feet deep only 20 yards out.

Gulf shores.

Rigged up a rod holder in my work van that worked splendidly. Could probably get about 14 rods max in there. Dont have to bring anything up to the condo. I just load up in the morning and walk out.

I wanted to get a shark this trip so check that off the list.

Anyone know what this monsta is? It was pretty thin and had some ridged Y fins on the bottom of it. I was under attack from Fred trying to snatch it from me so tossed it back. Then said shite I should have used for bait. Next time....

Thanks I’ll look those up n see. edit to add yep leatherjacket is it, cool thanks!

Cart is a anglers fish n mate sr. I absolutely love it. Glides across the sand with those orange tires. I added the 45deg rod holders (same brand). That lets the rods clear the parking garage ceiling so I don’t have to carry them from the van to the beach.

Where is your big brother!

There he is. 14”...in da box

Still loving some surf fishing so some more pics. Caught a little whiting so I used him for some cut bait...it went as expected

Looks like an Atlantic sharp nose. Just landed a second one.
