Daiwa fishing rod warranty NSFWish

I have a 10 month old Daiwa I bought from Academy. It has a 1 year warranty and receipt with warranty info on a tag. It snapped the other day after setting the hook. Never been stepped on or shut in a door. Taken care of. Broke around an eye support.
Academy says they don't take them back even with a receipt. Have to mail it in to Daiwa myself. Well shite, that is the cost damn near of getting a new one when you factor in time, money, and the fact Daiwa wants you to "insure" an already broken rod after reading their directions. Anyone ever go through this trouble and did it for cheap? I'm thinking of just trashing it and moving on as I usually do with broken rods
Thanks for your time

Thanks for this info. I'm not a Daiwa fan anyway but this is good to know. Many warranties are absolute shite these days. Most companies just don't stand behind their product anymore. Find the ones that do and stick with them.

I usually don't buy Daiwa either. I usually just roll with a Shakespeare or the Academy house brand. Cheap and they last.

A local rod shop may be able to help with a quicker turn around and less hassle.

if it's Academy brand they will swap it out over the counter...if not it goes back to the manufacturer...
they were getting hammered by people abusing the return policy...
I had a pair of sunglasses that the rubber on the arms kept wearing off after a period of time...
so after they replaced them once the next time (few years later) I was told they have to go back to the vendor for replacement or repair...
my boat cover they still replace every few years...although the warrenty went from 5 years down to 3 years...

Is that a Daiwa thing as to why Academy won't take it back? I recently snapped a G Loomis I'd bought from academy, took it back in with the receipt and get an exchange straight away. Thought they did that with all rods?

I haven't had great success dealing with daiwa customer service. Lews was much better.

Interesting....I snapped my only diawa rod last month. Probably wont buy another. I hadn't looked to replacing it yet. Was 3 months old. I was fighting a 30 inch red though and tried to turn her before she rounded the bend. Still landed it.

It’s because the receipt is older than 6 months. Otherwise academy will accept an exchange.
If you are wanting the same rod and academy still sells that rod, buy a new one, and in a week or so bring the broken one back with the new receipt.

I've done this a while back at Walmart who wouldn't take back an electronic that failed quickly. That way does work

Maybe it was just the old lady at the door making up a rule
I'll try again
