If you mean by true fix do you mean 100% eradication?

How do you possibly give a vaccine to 100% of the infected deer? Can you imagine the cost to even try?

Vaccines aren't to cure an infection. They are given to prevent infection.

So, saving 100% of the deer is the measure for success?

I just see how one can vaccine a misfolded protein.

The researcher from LSU is saying it isn’t a misfolded protein.

Has anyone mentioned that this video (and research/suggestions that bacteria cause CWD) is from 2011? This doesnt seem to have gone anywhere in the ensuing 7 years...

LINK from 2011 with same video and article

ETA: looks like the original '11 article was updated with video in '17. Apologies.

The article was updated and video was added after the press conference two weeks ago. Unless I am mistaken.

Thanks, did not know. I wish people were not so quick to use abbreviations in their posts for those readers not familiar with the subject. They do it on all forums.

On the Outdoor board, CWD is as common as LSU these days.

I read the advocate release and I think they are getting the details wrong based on the Bastian's research article I read.

The bacteria is not the cause of CWD but rather helps host the prion making it difficult to treat.

quote:

Spiroplasma biofilm formation explains the role of these wall-less bacteria in the pathogenesis of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs). Spiroplasma embedded in the biofilm polysaccharide matrix are markedly resistant to physical and chemical treatment, simulating the biologic properties of the TSE agent.

quote:

We hypothesize that, because spiroplasma strongly bind to mica, microcolonies of spiroplasma localize to the upper clay layers of soil that are readily available for ingestion by ruminants (57, 58). Scrapie is transmitted into sheep via the oral route

quote:

Vaccine development against infection-specific proteins associated with spiroplasma infection might provide protection against TSE.
