I recently asked a buddy to cut out of work early with me on a Friday so we could head up to the camp early. He said he would like to, that work was slow, but he didn't want to take the vacation time. I'll be the first to admit that I shouldn't have been as shocked as I was, but we we're talking about rolling out at 1 PM or so. No, he doesn't work in Communist China...I asked.

I've got a boss who's theory is that its 2013, you've got a blackberry with a phone in it, be reachable...thats about it.

Curious to know how many of you have found professions that allow you the flexibility to head out a little early on Fridays to chase your favorite hobby WITHOUT having to document a few hours here and there as vacation time.

My worst nightmare is that my next job may not afford me the same flexibility.

That might be one, but your worst is in the White House.

That pretty sweet! When you say you're "off" though...does that mean completely off the grid, or do you have to be available in case stuff comes up?

This would be awesome.

I used to work a 9/80 schedule and we had every other Friday off. It was great.

I only work Fridays if we are real busy. I don't fish on weekends much either unless I have a client with me. I try to get 3-4 days a week in on the water.

Half our office personnel have cabins on one of the local islands. Sunny day in summer, this place is empty. Gotta have your priorities straight.

As long as I have done what I need to be done, I'm free to go.

I kinda have it made or I think so anyways.

Go in about 9-9:30, out by 4:30-5. Can work from home whenever i choose. Left today at 2 with no vacation time.

They'll definitely have to fire me to get me out of that place.

On salary, I don't get paid overtime when I work over 40 hours, so when I want to leave early on a Friday and my shite is taken care of... I leave

Do people still use blackberries? I don't think I have ever seen a company go from number 1 in a market to being a non player so fast.
