Can you get your truck up to the tree? If you can and have a buddy willing to help just cut the damn thing yourself. Tie a rope as high as you can get it up the tree and tie it off to your trailer hitch. Put a little tension on the tree with your truck. Cut a wedge where you want it to fall and have your buddy get in the truck. Have him pull the rope tight and cut down from the backside toward your wedge and it will fall where you want it to go. I have never paid anyone to cut a tree in my life and sure as hell wouldn't pay 2K.

That's a disaster waiting to happen.

I've seen an inexperienced person do that and phuck it up royally. Pulled and rocked the tree, slack caught and tree fell wrong way. Lucky it missed any structures.

It takes alot of shite to safely pull down a tree like that. It can end really badly.

You're absolutely right. There's a reason it costs so much.

It doesn't take much to frick somethin up like that.

I have been taking trees down like that since I was a kid and have never had a problem. Some of you city boys just aren't used to having no help around. If you didn't do it alone or with the help of your neighbors it wasn't going to get down where I lived.

I've been on a tractor pulling on a tree while someone was cutting it. Rope broke, tree was in a bind, not a good spot.

You'll pretty much never see a person who knows what they're doing try that without a bulldozer and hydraulic winch unless the tree is in the middle of nowhere and just needs a little persuasion.

Climb it and wack it one piece at a time.

It's dangerous man. There are not many times when tying a rope to a truck and yanking on a tree is the right thing to do.

Not being a smart arse help just wasn't an option where and when I grew up. I was born in 1949 in Amite county MS, still the most rural county in the state, and there was nobody to call. If you couldn't do it it didn't get done.

According to dantiger only city boys do it that way.

I wouldn't yank on it. Simply put tension on the tree until the final cut is made. You must have a thick quality rope and good communication between the driver and man making the cut. I can't believe how big a deal this is to many of you. I honestly cannot even remember how many trees we took down this way.

I'd rather pay 2k and shift responsibilities to someone else in case damage does occur. 2k is nothing compared to potential 30-40k in damages if that thing falls through the center of the house. If this tree wasn't 15' from the house id do it myself as well. But it has no room for error. And it has to be topped because there's no room to drop it without it hitting a house or landing on the road on any side.

If he has a box lift that would be fine but I assume he doesn't or he would already have cut it down. I would much rather see it done my way than see someone climbing a tree with a chainsaw. I am not saying I have never done it but it is not a safe endeavor either.

I have not purchased the home. I'm just getting an idea of the cost in the event that I do purchase it. I have an offer pending and will try to negotiate removing the tree in the offer if possible.

I'm with Dan on this one. It's exactly what I've always done and what lots of old-timer have done for years. The trick is to have gradual tension...no jerking.

From the pic, it appears that tree already seems to have a good lean to it.

Lots of room to work. Not a huge deal.
