For bass and bream

Ever had luck with wet flies? Ive always used poppers...

A 2 weight fly rod for bass too light? I have a 6 weight now and the bass in this pond dont have much potential so im looking to downsize for a better fight

For bream, I've had good luck with these little sinking spiders. For bass, its been poppers, or this one little minnow pattern that my father in law gave me.

You'll get it with a 2 weight.

This really depends on the size of fly you are going to be using.

Not sure how weight sizes if fly rods compare, but pond bass on an ultralight is a hella fun fight.

Just got back from fly fishing. Caught 6 bass maybe 1/2 lb bass and 4 baby bream. The white popper was working on the baby fish

I want to get a setup just to play around with. But I don't want to get something really shitty then like doing it, and have to spend more money on something decent. I might look into it in the summer.

4 weight is great for smaller fish like bream, sac-a-lait and small bass. 6 weight will handle a little larger fish like bass. 5 is a good compromise.

I tell you what though... hook a decent redfish on a 6 or 8 and you'll be in for the time of your life.

You could do worse than Cabela's for your starter gear. (And I don't own any real expensive freshwater gear).

I'd probably get something geared to handle reds and bass more, what would be a good weight? 6?

A six can handle them. It becomes a little light when you need a heavier line, to cast a heavier lure or in the wind. I got an 8 strictly for casting larger flies at redfish in the wind. got it on sale from Cabela's for like $50.

When its warm and not fighting springtime winds, I will use the 6 and smaller patterns.

With fly fishing, you pick the lure to match the fish's food... the line to match the lure... and the rod to match the line. So depending on what size lure you want to cast, it will determine the rest.

I see. I'll look into this more. It's in line behind a new topwater rod, finesse spinning setup, and possibly another Curado. Or 2.

B$B a great wet fly for bream and bass is a wooly worm in black, olive, or really what ever. Size 8 - 12 is about perfect.

2 wt for bream is a blast but a size 10 starts to get a little difficult to cast. I would recommend a 3 or 4 although the 2 wt with a 1/2 lbs bass is so much fun. Another problem with a 2 wt is they are usually pretty short. Mine is a 8ft and it was the longest I go could find at the time.

I have a 9 ft 3 wt that's a lot of fun and a great compromise. I've caught trout (freshwater type) that went 4-5 lbs on it without much problem.
