I have an unpopular opinion around here, guns and alcohol do not mix, hunt all you want, drink all you want, but once you start drinking hunting is over

Why is this controversial?

I’ll be damned if I’m gonna sit in a hot arse field watching corn chops germinate without white cans.

Like someone else said, every knows their limit. If you are going passed that with a firearm in your hand, you would get asked to leave. Having a few beers in the dove field is acceptable with responsible adults. Maybe I have just never hunted with raging alcoholics who get trashed and try to shoot a dove.

fatherin law says no beers this year cause he got peppered a little last year with over spray

I have never had a problem with getting peppered. It’s not like people are doing it on purpose and it doesn’t even slightly hurt. I have seen people get fighting mad, though.

I typically don’t drink when hunting. Honestly don’t have any desire too drink beer when dove hunting because you get dehydrated as hell.

In a big arse dove field I’m ok with it. Duck blind is where I draw the line Not trying to get my head blown off.

I don't know that I have ever been on a dove field with more than a few other people shooting and did not get peppered....#7s falling from the heavens is not going to hurt anyone or anything. Shooting a low birds, however, is a totally different thing LOL....have had that happen a time or two and it always causes some un-needed drama and rightfully so. I took a dove load from my knee to my waist at about 70 or so yards - but at an angle so not dead on - and it knocked me down but I may have jumped to the ground, I was about 12 at the time and I don't remember it being painful or causing any bruising. It did cause a helluva a ruckus though LOL...no on my part, I was just a kid and didn't realize what it could have resulted in....but the adults on that area or that field were extremely concerned and took the old boy responsible to task over it...to the point that he left.

I haven't been on a crowded dove field in years but if there is more than a couple of people shooting peppering one another is just something that happens. We had a neighbor call the sheriff once in NE Georgia about his carport being damaged from out shooting and the sheriff told him if #7 falling from the sky damaged his carport he needed a better carport LOL. Dude never complained again. Sherriff also told him if he did not like people hunting he probably ought not have moved to that part of Georgia....

Not going to tell a grown man how to live his life, but with the others that booze and guns don’t mix. Even if you can handle yourself and know your limits, there’s no guarantee that someone else doesn’t cross the line. And once they’re impaired, you’ve opened yourself up to a bad situation of trying to tell a drunk they need to put their gun away or else letting them keep blasting and putting everyone at risk.

That being said, your land, your rules.
