So the Tuna thread from last week has me really wanting to fly down to Cabo and fish a couple days. I was hoping some people here could give me a little guidance. Who did you use, where did you stay, what time of year, anything you would do differently...just tips and pointers.

I still can't believe you can take a trip like that for so little, seems like it could be my new favorite thing.

The price of the fishing down there is pretty awesome. I used redrum and definitely suggest them. The owners are from Texas and cool guys. Drank many pacifico with them after fishing.
We went in November. Only caught mahi but still had fun.
Stayed south of the marina at terrasol. Booked through airbnb. Super easy and affordable. Also private beach. About 10 min walk to the marina and anything you want to do. 10$ cab ride for 4 people to just about anywhere.
We will be back and probably do it all the same. May go during the summer but I really enjoyed going in November. Any other questions just ask.

Just checked out the Redrum website. They look like they are already booking up pretty good for October, I saw on a different website that fall seems to be the best time to fish there. I'm all about booking with Americans the first time around at least, just makes me feel more comfortable I guess. I assume all the crews speak English?

Are there multiple marinas that run charters or is it similar to Zekes, where many companies run out of the same place?

I'm not familiar with airbnb, is that some sort of discount site? What do rooms run around there? Walking distance to the Marina sounds like a winner.

How long did y'all stay? Did you fish every day? Did you get to do anything besides fish? Did you have a target species or just went after whatever was biting?

4 of us went with redrum last May. We paid cash and it was cheaper. We stayed at an all inclusive riu Santa Fe I believe. It was awesome we caught a sailfish 2 Marlin and a shark. We did the 8 hour trip. As far as doing anything differently I would have fished more than once it was awesome. Be sure to save some bait for the ride in. They have a giant sea lion that will jump on the boat and eat the fish out of your hand. The scuba wasn't that great.

Yea the crews will speak English.
The marina is huge. There are a ton of companies that fish out of there. And plenty of bars and restaurants.
Airbnb is like vrbo. You rent rooms and condos through owners.
We stayed 5 nights and I wanna say we payed 175$ a night for an 2 br 2 ba condo. Basically treated it like a beach/vacation trip. Hung out. Drank. Ate. Went out. Shopped. And fished. Only fished 1 day. We targeted mahi because they were biting the best that week. We actually fished a tournament. Ended up winning almost 3k on the mahi we caught. It was me and my wife and another couple.

Cabo is a great town, all the good stuff, bars and restaurants are close to the marina. Cabo is a place to drink, party, fish and eat well. Not necessarily in that order. I have used Redrum before, they are a good operation.

Gotcha. Looks like this thing might actually materialize, it's amazing how hard it is to get 3 other people to get on board for something like this.

I don't know how I didn't know about this sooner. Seems like a perfect trip.

It just so happens that I excel at all of those. At least I try to.

Wick, how long ago were you there? How did you do?

I've chartered with Redrum a few times. Great group to use and will put you on the fish.

August of 2011 for a Bachelor party. We fished one day, have a number of marlin in the baits no hookups. Caught one chick mahi. Nobody's fault, we were one of the last boats back in the harbor. I would use them again...

Boats in dock the day we fished.

I know 318 has been to Costa Rica twice in the last 2 years. They caught almost 100 sailfish in 3 days of fishing.

We are booked August 15-19 with Redrum. Fishing two days and staying at their 4 BD Villa with private pool. Will be the first time for me.

Any recommendations on golf courses out there?

I was thinking Sept/Oct. This is all very much in the air. I'm still trying to make sure I have 4 people. Whodat says he's in but I don't think he's asked the wife yet.

Haha. Well I booked a whitetail trip to Oklahoma first week of October so count me out. Next fall I think we're going again though.

sorry I am late to the party, but much has already been discussed. We went in Oct, and fishing was GREAT. 2 days on boat we caught 11 tuna, 1 wahoo, 1 dorado (mahi) 1 13ft blue marlin, and another stripped marlin. We were with Redrum, as has been mentioned. Captaians all spoke enough English to get by. Spanish was their preferred language but communicating was not an issue., We stayed in "Pedragal" which is a gated neighborhood, with a hundred or so rental properties, amongst second homes. Our specific villa was "Villa Luna Nuevo". We were told that Oct is the "off season" so not many college kids (I am getting old) so this was perfect for me, better fishing, not too crowded. We did go to Sammy Hagar's bar, Cabo Wabo a few nights, not packed, but had plenty of people for me.

boats leave at 6:00 and back by 3:00. plenty of time to go eat, walk through marina, bars at night. Even visited the "husband day care" establishment. (that description was written on the wall)

Did you have a target species or just went after whatever was biting?

the first day we caught 8 or 9 tuna, so we decided to target marlin the next day, and got 1, plus the Wahoo, and a few other tuna. 3rd day was much slower, 1 dorado, and 1 stripped marlin.

1 main marina, if you walk it completely, it is almost a mile in total length, but horseshoe in shape, so doesn't seem that big, with dozens of charter services.
