In alabama you must hand over your cc permit when you get pulled over. How do you not know this
In Alabama you do not have to mention that you have a CC permit to LEO in a traffic stop.
quote:
And also if you have a CC permit, they will see this once they pull up your driver's license information.
I asked the sheriff of Madison County specifically if it would show up that I had a pistol permit if I was pulled over and he said no. Also said that he does not make permit holders names part of public information searches. Blake Dorning (sheriff of Madison County) considers his complete permit list a record of privilege, not a record open to the public.
An exemption to the Alabama Open Records law seems to allow for Dorning's interpretation. It reads: "Exemptions to the definition of public records include the records of library materials checked out by library patrons (except in the case of minors, whose parents may request records) and records relating to the security of individuals and infrastructure,"

cop said, "can i see it, please?"
buddy said, "nope.."
cop almost shite himself, but my buddy did not have to show him his firearm, just had to tell him whether or not there was one in the vehicle

I'm talking about Louisiana. I don't live in Gumpville.
I still think it's retarded that legally you can't travel with a loaded handgun in AL unless you're permitted. It's ridiculous.
Besides that, your state is pretty gun-friendly.

It is, but there is currently a piece of legislation being considered that fixes this problem. I'm pretty hopeful that it will pass.

If I bring mine to spring break (FL) and leave it in my truck, could they somehow say it's in my possession if I'm drunk in the condo or on the beach?
You need to research the laws of FL, including age requirements to have a gun in your vehicle. I don't think a gun that's legally in your vehicle would pose a legal problem if you're drunk in the condo, but I'm not a lawyer.
quote:
What about if I leave it in my duffle bag in the condo?
Read your contract w/ the condo CLOSELY and be sure it's legal for you to have a gun in the condo.

If we're drinking in the condo and cops come am I asking for trouble?
I believe you'd be ok in LA, but that may not be the case in FL. In addition, be sure there are no DRUGS involved, including marijuana. In LA, if one is charged w/ drugs and there is a gun in possession (e.g. in the same house), one can now be charged w/ a FELONY. Alcohol doesn't carry the same risk. But again, who knows about FL.

If you have a CCW, it is very good courtesy to tell the LEO that you have it and where the gun is located. This is not a requirement but, it certainly is appreciated by an officer.
In LA, a person carrying concealed is REQUIRED by law to tell an officer immediately on contact by law. Pg 3. LINK

Would you rather them not ask and then put one in the back of your head when he sees you reach in the direction it is? They are asking so things don't get f'ed up for you.
Oh. No, they don't not have to ask. Kinda like they don't have to tell you if they are undercover.

I think the responses have fallen into two different categories:
1. Routine traffic stop of someone who does NOT have a CCW permit but has a gun in the vehicle. I think this is actually what the OP was questioning.
2. Routine traffic stop of someone who has a CCW permit and has a gun in the vehicle.
Before having a CCP, I didn't volunteer to a LEO that I had a gun in the car. I would still NOT advise anyone to do so unless the gun is going to be exposed to the LEO in the course of me looking for papers and such.
If carrying concealed, I will tell the officer ahead of time that I have a gun one my person as it's required in LA. I'll tell LEO in other states as well so I won't have to remember any state to state differences.
My question is: In LA, is one who is has a CCW permit required to tell a LEO of a weapon in the vehicle, even if the weapon is NOT concealed on his person? I've asked the question previously and have researched it, but it's still not clear to me. Unless I find otherwise, I'll plan on informing the LEO in this situation, as well.

This is a good question. I always tell on myself but I have no reason to hide it. Usually they are like ok whatever why are you going so damn fast.

Bingo. Be polite, be sober, not be doing something too crazy to be stopped in the first place, and I'm cutting you loose. Just remember our deal.
Every driver looks at me like I'm crazy at this point of the conversation......
What deal?
You see me getting shot, stabbed, or otherwise having a bad day on the roadside in the future just remember why I cut you loose.

I have had this understanding most of my adult life and do not ever have issues with cops.

Absolutely absurd.
1. Purchase prison from State of Louisiana
2. Profit

I had one stop me for speeding in Port Vincent. He asked if I had a firearm in my vehicle. I told him yes and it was under the driver's seat. He went and got it and took the ammo out. When he was done with my ticket, he gave it back and said he really liked it and wished I would go home and clean it.
