Or "hake". They taste similar to a grouper.

I caught multiple squid about 6 inches long on shad rigs in florida

I also caught a puffer fish of the jetties in destin

both of those would fall under the unexpected category lol

Coolest would be a northern pike while doing some fishing in Minnesota, just cause those arent down in louisiana

Bearded Brotula and Southern Hake are not the same fish. Brotula has a tail like an eel, Hake, more like a fish, if you will. The Brotula eats WAY better also, the Hake is, well, meh...

Strangest fish I've caught, prolly only strange cause you don't hear of many in the GOM but Cubera Snapper and Black Grouper. Other cool ones are Silk and Bigeye Snapper, Longtail Seabass, Huge Conger Eels...

I sometimes feel like we catch small Cubera when fishing for Mangrove Snapper.........they are mean as hell and snap their teeth together trying to bite anything when they hit the boat........

In the seafood industry, it's still considered a hake. There are other hake fish out there but one of the bearded Brotula's common name is still a hake.

I used to have a camp in Pilottown and Venice(where I'm from) but no more since Katrina.
